I am in the market for a Panerai and need some advice. My collection now consists of a SS Sub Date, TT Sub Date, BR 03-94 Chrono, Corum Admiral's Cup and a bunch of lower end watches. My collection obviously ranges in sizes from 40-44mm and I tend to like a bigger watch because I am a big guy. I have tried all three on and cannot make a decision. My favorites are the 104, 233 and 270. I love the sandwich dial on the 233 and 270 and the long power reserve on them as well. I have never owned a manual wind watch so am unsure of the 233 movement. I love the polished case on the 104 and also the automatic movement. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

they are all great, but very different prices, most of the paneristis prefer the 233, 1950 case, sandwich, excellent power reserve, dome crystal, manual wind is very cool imo.

If you can afford it, go for the 233!!
You'll get an in-house 8 day movement that is absolutely awesome. I love winding my 190 each time....it's like buttah! All the pieces you names are great and it comes down to what you like. I know I intend on the 233 being my next PAM though.

The 104 was my first PAM and I love it !! I also have a 111 thats just brilliant for the price and "essential Panerai simplicity"
![]() ![]() ![]() The 233 and the new 312 also great choices !!! Buying the first PAM is a tough decission.....the second and third and so on and so forth are just so much easier !!! ![]() ![]() Enjoy the hunt !!!

The 233 and the 270 are indeed very much in line in with each other, the 233 being a little more clean and balanced IMHO against the 270, this due to the dail having the PM/AM indicator, i was more a auto movement fan then a manual wind and at one stage due to this i also compared the 2 (bought a while diff watch) however the 8 days calibre is outstanding on the 233 , what i would choose over the 270 these days
the 104 is whole diff case/watch really and you also cant go wrong with this, however if you have the extra $ to spend the 233 with the 1950 case, domed crystal is a real nice piece, but end ff the day you are the one wearing it , so giv them both a try and see what appeals to you most in either way you cant go wrong.... good luck. |

233>270 IMO If going for a 233,try to get one with "The Dot" and not the am/pm indicator.

233 ... got to be.. i though over it for a while and concluded that 233 is a winner.. combines the classical Panerai element with a cutting edge movement.. although the movement is not simple the look is very clean.. i havent bought mine yet but in the next few days i will...

That is the problem I have with the 270. The numbers are smaller and distorted due to the curve of the crystal.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have tried on all 3 and like them all but was leaning heavily towards the 233. I love the sandwich dial and domed crystal and have heard nothing but amazing reviews of the movement. Thank you all again!!
