Question
I did not wear my watch for a couple of days and when I did go get it to put it on I noticed that the time was off by a couple of hours. It says 3:50 instead of 1:50. Is this normal? I have the SS sub/date. Only had it for about a week.
Thanks |

Humm.......
![]() Is it possible the watch wound down and stopped? Two days may have put you over the edge onthe power reserve. I think I'd give it a good 40 to 50 turns and wear it a while and see where it's at. |

Frans has asked a very good and valid question. If the date was current, there's really nothing to worry. The exact same thing happened to my wife's TT YM a couple of days ago.
It was 7:30 am, but her watch was showing 3:45 am but with the current date. The watch was still running, but it only shows that the watch was so severly unwound, that there was hardly any energy left in the main spring. Gave it 40 turns of the crown, set the correct time and everything was fine. ![]() JJ

The date was fine. This may seem stupid I don't know this but, I didn't think this watch needed to be wound. I have never done that. I guess that is my problem. Thought just the motion of wearing it took care of that ![]() |

You must remember that the watch has a semi-circular rotor inside that pivots on its central axis. The movement of your wrist is what causes this rotor to rotate in both directions. Each time the rotor turns, it actually "winds" the watch by providing a certain amount of tension to the main spring which is the base source of your watch's energy. Since you stated in your very first post that you had NOT worn the watch for two days, the rotor was stationary and not providing any kind of power to the mainspring which, in turn, had lost most of its energy. Thus the watch had slowed down considerably. If it was still running that's only 'cause it was on its dying leg. Nothing to worry about. Most automatic watches have a Power Reserve of around 42~46 hours. Just wear your watch for around 8 hours a day and you'll be fine. In fact, you can wear it for 8 hours a day, every alternate day, and you'll still be fine! Cheers - JJ

I only wear my watch when I go out, and it usually doesn't amount to 8 hours (especially durring the summer). Yay for Quartz!
