Buying Sub NoDate in Italy

Hi,

I will be on a vacation trip to northern Italy (Lake Garda, Rimini, Florence, Como, Lugano and in between these locations) in 2 weeks time.
I will be travelling by car from Germany.

I would be interested in picking up a Sub No date on this trip.
There is probably not a big chance of success but maybe you guys can give some advide which AD might be worth checking out.

Alternatively I also might be interested in a DJ 41 (blu stick dial, fluted bezel on a Jubilee)
Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Email the Rolex dealers in the areas you are visiting about your holiday. Explain to them that you would like to visit them as well as what you are interested in. Now when you get there you already have a contact name and they know a bit about what you are looking for. In theory, the email should have gone out longer than two weeks out to build up a better rappport. But at least you are reaching out without going in blindfolded.

It's not that difficult in obtaining what you are looking for.

Good luck!

No, pricewise Germany would be slightly better.
But I cannot get any Rolex SS here.

And I don't want to pay additional 30% to MSRP for going grey.

Since Italy has a lot of Rolex ADs I thought maybe my chances there are better.

I would prefer a Sub NoDate however I wouldn't mind the DJ 41 either (blue stick dial, fluted bezel and jubilee either).

Would it be impolite to ask for a discount for the DJ 41 at an Italian AD?

Probably true

But it cannot hurt to ask.

Maybe the DJ41 is possible?

Agreed 100% Last summer in Paris I visited a couple of AD and one they told me they preferred selling their sports watches to the local buyers. Just enjoy your vacation. Don't know if you're flying back but, you can also try the airport.

yes, what you write is right.
I think is almost impossible to find a Sub at an AD.
I live near Como (and near Lugano...) and you'd have to be really lucky to find it. But, who knows ?!! Maybe... Good luck and have a good holiday here in Italy

On recent trips between July 19 & January 20 flying out from Heathrow (tried in the terminal AD’s) tried in Gibraltar, Marbella (same trip) Cologne and Barcelona not even a sniff of a SS Sub.

Ok,

Thanks for all the advice on the SubC.

what about the DJ 41 (blue stick dial, fluted bezel, jubilee)?

Is that difficult at an Italian AD or could this be found on a walk-in base?

To give an update:

Some success at least.

I got a response from Italian AD (Rolex Boutique) that they just got in the DJ 41 (126334) and they will hold it for me until I stop by in early August.
Price is full MRSP (€9450).
I will have to place a deposit of 20% by bank transfer.

No luck with the SubC (104060) though.
Only option for that (so far) would be going grey (and that would start at €9500).

Maybe I should ask the Rolex Boutique to bundle me a SubC (provided they have one in backstock) with the DJ41...?

No they’re not going to bundle a steel sub with a steel DJ41

Pick your DJ41 up and use that purchase to move to the Sub in time

Ok guys,

I have been back in Germany now for 2 weeks and my holiday trip to Italy was successful.

I was able to pick up the Datejust41 (blue sticks, fluted bezel, jubilee) at retail at the Rolex Boutique on Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
I contacted the boutique in advance by email and as luck would have it they just got this model in stock and held it for me.

The Sub NoDate I picked up grey near Lake Garda from a trusted seller on Chrono24.
I had to pay €1800,- in addition to MRSP.
But what can one do?
The heart wants what the heart wants...

Thanks for your advice on this. Getting in contact with the dealers (AD or grey) in advance by email certainly helped.

Also here are some pictures of the watches and the locations.

Florence & DJ41

Pisa & SubC

Lake Como & SubC

Congratulations on your purchases!

I got married in Malcesine on lago di Garda and have travelled to all of the places you showed. Absolutely adore Italy so my congratulations is for both the watches and taking to the opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful countries on the planet.

I started off my Rolex addiction with the same two models.

Nice one on the pick ups. Nothing better to add to a holiday than a couple of Rolex!

When I spent three weeks in Italy in 2018, I visited 3 ADs who all had Subs date and ND. Not on display but when I asked they brought them out for me! I was shocked back then and still don’t think you can walk into three different ADs and be presented with Subs without prior purchase history or without any wait at all.
