New Rolex

Hi guys

I have just picked up my first Rolex submariner two tone black/gold!

I have a question regarding some wear and tear that’s started to happen where the end of the clasp rubs on the underside of the bracelet (gold link).

My question is this normal to happen and can it be polished out?

I understand it’s on the underside but it’s a brand new watch and my baby!
I think I will take a link out also to give my self more adjustment and worried in doing so I’ll wear out another link doing so 😔.

Also appreciate any other tips on how to maintain my watch, it’s my everyday watch.

Thank for any help in advance !

It's normal, it's happened to my Daytona rolesor and SS sub, it's the clasp when it's folded over especially if links are removed at the 12 o'clock side. Given that the underside is brushed gold it wouldn't be the best Idea to try and polish it out, noeone sees it and it will only occur again.

Normal, steel on steek always creates wear, just ignore it

A simple act of physics when any two metals rubbing together will cause friction and over time slight wear all normal. But a simple fact with any oyster bracelet keep them clean with good old soap and water they will last 20 plus years or more.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys! :)

I guess I’ll have to learn to deal with it..

Any particular soap you guys use and how often would you recommend washing?

Also another question I had was on the 3rd day of owning it become 3 hours behind in time! I assumed the AD didn’t wind it when setting the time for me and forgot in the excitement if it was winded or not.. I have since winded it 30 times as recommended and set time.
Is that common in a brand new submariner?

Sorry for the silly questions in advance!

Thank you

I bought the same exact watch. I have similar situation under the clasp. Worse, I kept thoughtlessly trying to open the clasp from the indentation and I actually left some scuff with my finger nail.

My feeling is this is a scratch magnet! Live and let be! I am, however, looking at aftermarket rub straps so I'm not always scratching the bracelet. Also frequently wearing rubber bracelets pinches a nerve in my wrist that gives me awful carpel tunnel.

Five years ago I was in the same position
Yes it will scratch especially the gold part of the bracelet but it won't be even noticeable unless you look for it .
Don't worry about it ..enjoy the watch and wear it in good health

There's this product called Cape Cod you can use, but practice on your beaters first...

Yes definitely :) completely wipe the areas polished afterwards. The chemical in the cloth kinda burns

My Jubilee is almost 32 years old and I hope it will live another 15 or 20 years.

To fully wind it will need at least 40 full crown turns clockwise only they only wind on the forward wind and you cannot over-wind.And just wearing the watch does not wind the watch its wrist movement that makes the winding pendulum swing to wind the movement. As for soap any soap will do if its safe for your skin then it will be safe for your watch, rinse well after in fresh running water, dry on any clean cotton type tint free cloth.

Jason9 - Congrats on your new watch! I'm sure it's a stunner and I know you want to keep it pristine. As the owner of the TT Sub (Blue and YG), as well as a DJ41 (SS and RG), I feel your pain. Clasp scratches are unavoidable, though. Don't be "that guy" whose OCD compels him to polish out every single scuff. Simply let them be. My TT Rolexes look like sheet on the clasps, but IDGAF. Just live your life enjoying your watch and when it's time for service, let Rolex polish it for you.

Thanks guys loving this forum! You guys are all so helpful!

Yes absolutely loving it, wearing it everyday! And great personal accomplishment for myself.

In terms of when to wind it, would it be if you notice it running slow?

Leaving it laying flat at night okay and or would a watch wonder be overkill for just nights?

Also once a month to often to wash it?

Appreciate any help guys sorry for the questions just want to do the right thing and no the correct information too!

Cheers

I suggest you buy a watch box so you can keep all your watches in a foamed/lined place. Would help in minimizing scratches over the years.

Good for the imagination too as you visualize filling that box with the watches you love and see all of them at a glance :)
