Don’t wear this very often...

But when I do it doesn’t seem to come off for a few days.

Tremendous value for money (yes I know that sounds ridiculous but If you have been collecting for a while then you will understand lol)

Available from AD pretty easily and also a minute markup on the grey market if you can’t get it from an authorised dealer!

The dial is fantastic and the green second hand constantly sweeping is a joy to watch. Not to mention the yellow crown and green Rolex text incorporated into the dial.

Highly recommend :)

Love the Air King! An under-rated watch.

The 5, 10, 20, 25, etc. minute markers are very cool. Agree underrated watch and not one you see very often.

Let’s be real... the dial is not the most attractive in the lineup.

All they have to do is:

1. Replace the 5, 10, 20, 25, etc. with 1, 2, 4, 5, etc.
2. Get rid of the yellow coronet and the green Rolex.
3. Get rid of the Mercedes hour hand (true pilot-style hands like IWC would be cool)
4. Offer it in black, dark blue, dark green, and slate

And it would instantly become a super good looking piece.

Nice, good thing is that you don’t see a lot in the wild. Pretty exclusive

This was my first Rolex. After I started collecting more watches I had a friend who really needed help paying some bills. I gave him the watch and educated him on how to sell it for maximum value.

I miss the watch. It’s a terrible design: all the different fonts, the chrome looking numbers, the tiny bit of lume. What makes it awesome is that its totally bonkers looking, but it’s still a Rolex.

So a vintage Datejust with Arabic dial and dauphin hands? Looses the original cool funky different ness of the watch that makes it great IMO.

I adore this watch and it's on my "future" radar. I think it's got such a personality but in a utilitarian way. Also, regarding your #1 change, I read a story that explained the dial and how the minutes are more important for pilots than hours which is why they've put the most attention there! Plus, the high contrast of white on black is useful to them too. This modern Air King is one of the best pilot watches out there, and would make a great field watch too.

Explorer 114270

I did toy with the idea of buying a Air King prior to purchasing my Explorer 114270 it was a close call, I'm now revisiting the idea of buying one as I'm liking the dial and the colours, my only concern is that its not too different to the Explorer

It is very different than the Explorer. The AK wears larger and feels more substantial on the wrist compared to the 114270, I have both and they are very different watches.

I would compare the AK to the Milgauss (same form factor), while the Explorer wears identical to the OP39.

The 116900 AK is a fantastic reference and looks great on the wrist. The most quirky Rolex dial that I own and the same time it has very strong Rolex DNA. Overall great watch, love everything about it, wouldn't have it other way. Besides I think it will be updated next year and that will make it a rare watch.

Thanks, already enjoying a lot :) I love weight of the watch and colours in the dial, especially green. Only minus goes to lack of lume which is much better in Exp1.

I remember hating AK when it was released but somehow started to like it very much ~2 years ago. What happened to me

Yeah the lume is a bit poor, I never find it useful anyway so no issue for me.

You are spot on. Just thought to mention since I saw somebody thinking differences between AK and Exp.

I think the AK will be pretty sought after in decade. I wish I'd bought a used one when you could find them for less than $5k. Same with white dial Milgauss's.

Tell us about the Benz with the manual gearbox! In the states I don't think they've offered a manual since the 190E class in the late 80's/early 90's.
