Advice on Bergeon loupe magnification
As I have aged my eyesight has deteriorated to the point that I am now finding it difficult to clearly focus on my watch pins when replacing straps.
I decided a good quality loupe would be the best approach but I am unsure as to the ideal magnification size I should go for. I don’t profess to be an amateur watch repairer, I simply want to swap out bracelets and links occasionally. Does anyone have any experience with this type of product and a suggestion on the best magnification size. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

X4 , buy it with a wire that goes around your head. Even a cheap Chinese loupe will be completely fine.
Don’t be tempted on a higher magnification it will work against you |

I have a x5 Bergeon loupe, and it'd be way too much magnification for bracelet/strap work IMO. x4 or lower would definitely be better for that kind of thing.

Something that works well is a magnifier headset, available at AMAZON and some hardware and/or hobby shops.
They are a headband, available with various magnifier inserts, if you have never seen them. What is nice is that you wear them like glasses and that frees up your hands for whatever you are doing. These things beat loupes hands down. (I use these so much that I do not even know anymore where my loupes are.) And Driver8 is correct. Too much magnification is a bad thing. 4X is a good overall choice, but something like 10X is waaaay too much.

This. We got one years ago to wear while painting small figurines. I wanted to pop off a watch bracelet the other day, and I put on the headset. It was great. I do have a loupe, but that’s just to look at the watch. |

I have a Bergeon 3x for this same job but even that is already on the high side.

They say there’s nothing worse for the finishing on a watch than a loupe.
