Question about what is written between lugs

This is my first time posting a thread so I don't know if I'm doing it right. Please bear with me.

Two days ago I decided to inspect an Oyster Perpetual 124300 I received as a gift. Armed with information I randomly stumbled upon online, I took off the bracelet using a spring bar tool to inspect the lettering.

It's really hard to read what's written without using a magnifier. My question is shouldn't the "Orig Rolex Design" be written above the reference number?

Good question, for which I don't know the answer to either...
I'm sure someone with more knowledge will contribute.
Hang in there...!!
Nice piece, IMO...

Here's my 2001 16710. "ORIG. ROLEX DESIGN" is above the model number, and "STAINLESS STEEL" is above the serial number.

It's weird being the same age as old people.

Think it can vary. Here are some random recent pics in my iPhone history. Thought I had more. The one SS pic from the wrong side in question is my 934.

FWIW the 128238 I wasn’t the first owner but it was sent to Rolliworks for a complete service so no issues with authenticity

Still all the same it’s interesting as to why some do and some don’t. Never paid attention to it before. Even when I snapped the photo of the 128238.

Absolutely. Just wish I knew the answer because it appears I have an “odd ball” to.

I was gonna say maybe it’s a 36mm thing but I see you have a 124300 so that’s out.

So it looks like it depends on the reference and not all of them are the same. Thank you everyone!
'Tis a special forum indeed.

I’m glad to post/help where I can.

Granted I’d still like to know what determines top or bottom. Maybe some of our other members can chime in
