Grossmann Tefnut vs. Lang & Heyne Frederick

I am looking at a PM watch in 39mm. How do these two compare in terms of finishing and over-all quality. They seem to be in the same league, but I am not sure. It appears to me the case flows better on the Grossmann and the movement may show more of the finishing. I am not sure about the dial finish on the Grossmann. Any other brands along these lines in the same price point?

If you want the German aesthetic with high quality finishing, I think those two are good choices. I personally like the Georg from L&H a lot. The movement design is beautiful. It is a chunky watch though.

If you're ok going a step or two down in quality, then Lange & Sohne.

The MG is a bit more refined in my opinion. Its colors are somewhat more toned down, and the level of finishing on both is spectacular. The 39mm Tefnut is also a slim watch. But if you want the brighter colors and chunkiness, then L&H.

ETA: The MG dials are top notch. If you’re looking at that Tefnut released 2 years ago, it has a gorgeous friction plated dial. And oh the hands…no one beats MG hands!

I have on only seen a few of these watches so, my review is mostly from photos.
I prefer the MG designs, but it appears to me that they lowered the amount of finish on the Tefnut. The earlier models had an engraved balance cock and I believe Geneva stripes, the new ones do not. If I were to get a MG I would move up to the next level.

The architecture on L&H is more interesting than MG. But I do not like the 3rd lug in the center.

The Heyne, without any doubt

If we’re talking about the Tefnut below, it does NOT have a lower level of finishing vs a regular MG. If anything, it actually has a bit more. The mainspring gear has snailing, which isn’t standard. It definitely has an engraved balance cock and Glasshutte stripes. I have seen it multiple times in person.

Most of the Tefnuts I see for sale now look like this:
No snailing, no stripes, no engraving.

All I am saying, is that I would not choose the undecorated one.

Wow that's disappointing.

Totally agree on not getting an undecorated one! I have genuinely never seen a watch of theirs so unengraved. It appears to be a weird one-off model they made, but isn’t in their regular lineup anymore maybe (I hope)?

I have been watching Chrono24 for quite a while and the majority of the Tefnuts I have seen, have been undecorated.
Which, frankly affected my opinion of the brand as a whole.
I thought they were like ALS, and gave every level watch the same attention. But, that apparently is not the case.

L&H....all the way for me. I was never enamored with MG, and like the Gronefeld, I do not understand the hype.

I don't at all mean to be disagreeable here, so hope this isn't taken the wrong way. I'm a fan of both the brands mentioned here. I've met the MG team multiple times, and can tell you that are absolutely committed to high quality watchmaking. That being said, they have had to do some weird one offs in the past as they were trying to build the business, but those are not reflective of their current lineup.

The Tefnut example you're showing appears to be one piece that is being sold by watchBox and looks like it was a special they did for a charity bike race (Google Tefnut Pure). It's at a lower price point than a regular MG. I don't think it's reflective of their current or future brand direction. The new Tefnut 39mm is a gorgeous piece hands down.

Same here, or I wouldn't be looking at these watches on Chrono24 and in videos.
