Root Beer Availability

I have been away from the site for a while, and to celebrate a career achievement, I am thinking to buy a Rolex (what else? lol). So I was wondering about the availability of the Root Beer, compared to that of the Bluesy. Since I travel a lot, the GMT complication will be very useful to me. I was recently in an airport in Italy, and the dealer had nothing to sell.. In my eyes, this is the most good looking two tone Rolex.

Buy grey, the premium isn't so much. It would take a few months from an AD, absolute best case scenario. It's not the most difficult piece to get, but its far from a given that you'd even get one.

Congrats first of all! IMO do not buy grey, you won’t know if it’s real for sure unless you go to Rolex to open her up. Also the wait is not long for the root beer. Go tell the AD why you are purchasing and that should help. I had both the bluesy and rootbeer and like the RB a bit more, and for you with travel you will appreciate the GMT.

It all depends on the AD and how they play the game. You may want to try to get on a list at a couple ADs in your area (if they exist) and be patient. You could get lucky and have a short wait assuming the AD doesn't expect you to drop big bucks for the allocation.

Thanks, I checked that already, and the premium is about $5K if I recall well. I was pretty surprised, since I was expecting to be much more.. However, I am curious to see what other members think, what they have experienced. I have never paid attention to that watch, but a few days ago, all have suddenly changed...

I penny over is too much for me, especially if it isn’t from an authorized dealer. Guess it depends how desperate you are to get it now. I got mine in 2 months and that was when everything was really hard to get.

It is kind of funny, but I was wondering why I wear a sub, since I never dive lol. Thank you very much for the info, it makes my day to know that most probably I will not have to wait forever..

Please though, and I mean this, follow these steps:

1. Try to find an AD that is family owned.
2. Find out who the owner is.
3. Email the owner why you want it (what you are celebrating and why the RB specifically) and suggest you are coming in to discuss.
4. Go in and ask for the owner, tell the SA you emailed you are dropping by.
5. Explain again what you emailed and make a friend.
6. Develop an artificial timeframe of when you would like to purchase the watch (unless they have one in back which is unlikely).
7. Follow-up, be consistent and polite.

Best of luck, you will get it.

I got one in two weeks after requesting from AD.

It's a great choice

It's a great watch at msrp. Not worth 5k more. Tell AD your deal and that you don't want to buy a preowned watch. Ask them a realistic timetable to receive watch. Maybe talk with a few dealers. If AD tells you that you need to buy other stuff tell them your are not interested in other stuff and then they will know your full story. Best to you!

Mine took 8 months from my local UK AD. How that may or may not be of any use to you is impossible to say. Anecdotally, it seems to be one of the "easier" ones to get before you die of old age.

I’ve been waiting for just over a month now. I did see one in the Caribbean on vacation, but it was spoken for.

MSRP or less is my rule, doubt you will get such a deal from greys

CHNR (Rootbeer) is a beautiful watch. The best two tone Rolex makes, in my opinion.

If you are willing to be patient, I would go the AD route at MSRP. You may get it in a month, or may have to wait 6 months...but it will definitely come if you put a little effort in to talk with a few ADs. I suggest you don't rely on one AD, but talk to a few locally if possible.

Call around...that's what I did...and I found mine in under a month.

Got mine after 1.5 year. Upon confirmation of being on the list for it had 0 purchase history. By the time I got it I bought Exp2 and a regular DJ31 from the same AD.

A beauty.

Very doable. I saw one available for sale at a local boutique as a walk in a couple weeks back in my neck of the woods.

As many have noted, I'd stop by a couple local ADs, express your interest, and if you follow up, my sense is you'll have it this year. Best of luck OP
