This Seiko or That Tudor?

Jonesing for a new watch, and figuring that the GMT II "list" that I'm on is a long one..... Thinking one of these two. Thoughts?

I've seen the FXD in person, but not the Seiko SLA37. I started out a Seiko guy many years ago, but the Tudor has my interest as well. It'd be a daily-driver when the SD4K is in the watch box!

I haven't owned that particular Seiko, but I've handled the SLA043 extensively and I owned the blue version of the FXD for a few months last year.

The Tudor is fantastic - amazing titanium case, movement kept terrific time (better than my Rolexes), and the legibility was amazing. But I found the case to be a tad big for my wrists (6.75") and I found the dial to be quite shallow and lacking depth. The SLA043 fit much better on my wrist, had a much more interesting and visually pleasing dial (to me) and the movement performed reasonable well for a Seiko. The SLA037 has a different movement compared to the SLA043, so your mileage may vary with that.

If I was in your position trying to pick between these two, I think I would go for the SLA037.

Both are great looking divers. It might require a wrist test drive to decide.

But since you asked, I'd pick the Pelagos.

I have tried on the Pelagos and really like it. No experience with the Seiko SLA but I do like the Marine master 200m too. The MM 300m version a little too big but a much better movement than the 200m but not as accurate as the Tudor. Don't really like the aesthetics of the SLA compared to the others. Pelagos!

Both are fine timepieces, but I would go with the Pelagos.

With the FXD aren't you locked in to straps that work with fixed bars? I guess that would be the deciding factor for me. I'm not sure I would always want some sort of fabric strap that runs between the case and my wrist.

I don’t have any experience with that Seiko but I’ve always liked the way it looks.

With that being said, i bought the FXD right before Christmas and have worn it almost everyday since. Perfect dimensions for my 7” wrist. I just love the matte dial, thickness and titanium case.

I tried on a few Seikos today and will check out the Tudor this weekend. If they have the black FXD, I'll probably go that way. @golfjunie's pics are really compelling.

If I don't go for the FXD, I might step down a bit in the Seiko line and go with the SPB149. About $1100. Not as great of a movement, but a cheap-ish daily driver

Tudor, the dial is more legible and the case has more effort into it too.

I have owned both and still have the FXD. I am a huge Seiko fan and have many SLA's but the value proposition starts to diminish past 3k for me. The SPB 143, 145, 147, and 149 are a lot of value for the money. Make sure the bezel aligns and the winding stem is smooth before you buy, if you go that route. The FXD is great.

Agree - I'm narrowing it down to the SPB149 or the Tudor. I feel like the SPB line should be in the $600-$700 range, given the movement (not many fans of the 6R35, per my reading). But, to step up to the better movements, that's a $3000 jump.
