Travel companions - quality over quantity

Been traveling a lot recently - and I found myself sticking with these two, which are wildly different pieces but covers most if not all occasions - occasionally will bring the 5712 as well for longer trips.

As a result of this I have been thinking of what the ideal number of watches are for me - I think more and more the future state of my collection will be made of a smaller number (i.e. 6 instead of 10) of pieces, but really classic and significant pieces from each brand. I find I tend to end up picking these for wear anyway - even while i'm not constrained by traveling etc.

Nearly fell out of my chair seeing this duo. Phenomenal!

My Apple Watch does my travel duty.

Where are you traveling to can I ask? Only handful of cities I’d be comfortable wearing those pieces…

So dang beautiful!

I travel exclusively with GMT’s since I tend to cross a lot of time zones. My go to is my 126719BLNR and 226570 Polar.

I’ll be adding a Tudor Opaline right after I see what goes on at W&W for when I travel to more “suspect” places.

Seriously though, those two watches make a stunning duo.

That Daytona is incredible! I had to do a double take to make sure I was seeing it correctly.

I travel with 1 watch. Usually my GMT. I also bring my Apple Watch but I don’t really count that.

I have 5 watches now. But I think I got a little carried away. Having just 1 or 2 watches isn’t enough. 3 watches is probably the ideal number.

Who needs real companions when you have that watches?

Also, up to 5/6 watches might be a good number for a collection that covers everything.

Solid approach—quality over quantity always wins. If you keep reaching for the same pieces, it makes sense to refine the collection...

Less but better is a great way to go!

Take that, when one asks is it safe to travel with “X” brand of watch.

One watch for me when traveling.

Travel companions - quality over quantity

Love the Lemans - but not a “strap guy” on the other one. Love the 5712.

Given what you are showing of your 10, not sure anyone is going to comment on your shrink to 6 collection question, so I’ll give it a shot.

I love where you are going with honing down to 6 perfect watches, but I don’t know how hard those decisions will be for you given the quality of the cards you have showing.

I have bought a lot of watches (not your league, but really nice) and loved them all when I got them, but slowly my tastes have evolved to center around three lines - Daytona, GMT and Submariner. I have others, but honestly could be happy forever with five watches:
(1) Daytona SS (black)
(2) Daytona SS (white)
(3) Daytona YG PN OF
(4) GMT WG meteorite
(5) Submariner SS Hulk

Can we get some more pictures of the Daytona? Perhaps start a travel watch thread as you make your way to your destination?

That watch is a showstopper.

Very nice! I’ve been trimming my collection as well. I’m down to 6 (4 Rolex & 2 Patek) and I enjoy a smaller collection. I am getting the itch though and will probably add something this year.

What I learned about myself is I’m not regretting shrinking my collection.

For what it’s worth, we travel a fair bit and I always bring 2-3 high end watches and a Casioak (which I really don’t like) for scenarios where I might be comfortable wearing something else. If I can’t wear my watches, what’s the point as long as I’m aware of my surroundings.
