7135 movement thoughts
I didn't find any earlier conversation on this particular new movement - albeit strongly linked to the 7140 which has a subsidiary dial for counting the seconds of the day. So let's get into the thing at the start.
For example, is operating @ 5hz in the 7135 signaling something for the LD vs the 3255 in the DD? And what in the LD teaser and Short Video is this Rolex Dynapulse Escapement the right choice? Just "art", artifice, or functionally new? ![]() Anything else to dissect or discuss? It's certainly new since the 7140 isn't at 5hz. Hodinkee went into some depth here on the new movement: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/in...x-land-dweller Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

7135 movement thoughts
I like the concluding sentence the most:
"Because of the quality and scale, the cal. 7135 might just change the landscape of watchmaking." The second-most interesting comments are about the volumetric similarities of Dynapulse: "Equally notable is the scale of Dynapulse. The new escapement occupies essentially the same volume as Chronergy, the Swiss lever escapement that is now found across Rolex’s range of movements. This leaves open the possibility that Dynapulse can be fitted to other latest-generation Rolex movements, which would be logical given its functional superiority." A 32xx deathknell? Thanks for starting the discussion!
Having had a couple of days to think about this new movement, my thoughts: 1) Obviously this reflects a tremendous leap in technology for Rolex. On paper, the 5 Hz frequency, very thin movement profile, and seemingly very accurate specs (+/- 2 seconds) are all fantastic, and major credit to Rolex for this achievement. 2) One of the most appealing things about Rolex to me is their serviceability. Rolex watches from the 60's (and older) are still running accurately to this day thanks to the robust calibers with relatively straightforward servicing requirements. I felt like this began to change somewhat with the 32xx caliber, with the thin barrel necessitating replacement rather than a simple service. I wonder just how serviceable this new movement will be? To my layman eyes the new escapement seems very complicated. Doubt a Land Dweller owner would be able to send it to his neighborhood independent watchmaker for servicing 10-15 years from now... 3) Widespread use of silicon. While others like Swatch group have utilized silicon, Rolex only used siloxi in a few of ther ladies' models as well as the Yacht-master 37 I believe. Now with not only the hairspring made of silicon, but the components of the escapement as well, what is the long term future of this material? I've read second/third hand reports of old school watchmakers disliking silicon. I'm curious why Rolex didn't go with their parachrom blue for the hairspring? Again, these are just the musings of a layman, not a watchmaker. If any experts can chime in, would be fantastic! All in all, great time to be a Rolex enjoyer. ![]() |

I would love to hear input from @Bas as he is a Rolex certified watchmaker. The rollout of the 7135 has a tremendous training program ahead for the RSCs. There is a ramp-up clearly - the movements will be shipping later this year in volume - and the potential volume of service work should be shifted into 2026-27.

I don't know if Rolex even supplies a Mainspring as a stand alone service part any more ![]() The new Mainspring and Barrel assembly offers an increase in power reserve up from around 48 hrs to about 50 hrs. |
