Clean up or polish indices on a 16234 Datejust dial

I have a spare 16234 Datejust dial that I've contemplated getting installed in my 16234 Datejust for a color change. It has flat top indices that have slightly tarnished through the years, probably because it's been stored for years in a dial case and not a 100m water resistant Oyster case.

Is there a way to polish them? If I can't clean up the indices I'm never going to use the dial so there's not much risk here. I have a Bergeon leather buffing stick I could use, either with or without some type of polish. But I've never tried this before.

Any advice would be helpful.
