Lange price increase mid May

I got the email from my local boutique…. Price increase for Lange timepieces coming mid May !

A Lange 1 already costs $44,700 at a boutique (>$48k with sales tax in NYC)…. How much will it go up! ?

I think all watchmakers and having regular price increases and would be having them regardless of tariffs or not.

With regard to ALS and Lange 1s, I think this just reinforces the idea of getting that model on the secondary market/grey markets.

Looks like normal stuff. Why did prices go up last year, and five years ago, and what about in 2010? They should re-price back to 2002, that would surely increase item qty sales. Yes, 2002 pricing, make it happen Lange.

Lange 1 now is $47k, but so much is “price on request” it’s impossible to know the new prices without contacting the boutique directly.

I wanted to buy a Lange 1 in the oughts, but I thought it was too expensive in the teens. It has almost quadrupled. No time like the present.

Frankly with the many recent updates on their service issues, (and this one will need to be serviced), I'm a bit hestitant to buy this one right now.

Uhm, not more than any other service/company. Stuff happens. I sent 3 watches in for service and never had an issue with Lange. You can’t judge a company by two videos on YouTube…

Just a fun fact since you mentioned it.

Did you know that “price on request” translates to Spanish as “Get out of my store you destitute scum”?

I have an unofficial cap of $20k for one watch. At that point, we are at viable pre-owned car numbers. A lot of money to tell time.

Lange is really shooting itself in the foot with the obnoxious price increases. They overestimated demand and haven’t read the room yet in the post covid era.

Prices in the secondary market are in the decline. If they continue to raise prices, the gap between msrp and secondary prices will widen and worsen the value proposition of the brand.

Obviously you shouldn’t buy watches for investment value, and 10 years ago almost every watch lost value immediately, but we live in a different world now.

While watches are not investments, collectors do want to avoid crazy devaluation so they can move in and out of pieces periodically. While I do want to get a Lange at some point, it makes absolutely no sense to do so at the boutique anymore

I found their service to be great. Everything goes back to the factory. The downside is costs on complications can get up there quickly and there is some time involved.

I think it really depends where you are. I think in the US we are fortunate to have Alkis at SWR. He has serviced several of my Dato’s in the past and did an amazing job.

I like the watches but price is always a concern based on perceived value.

Well, I recently bought a preowned car which cost less than the watch I was wearing.

It was a bit hilarious actually. I was haggling with the sales manager, saying money was tight, politely saying I cannot do the rust coating although it sounds like a great offer etc.

In the end when I was about to drive off in my new preowned Hyundai (which I got for a great price) he said: I like your watch by the way (Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual time).

So all along he had known I was haggling about a car worth way less than my watch.

Edit: I think it makes sense paying more for a watch than a car. After 10 years the car will be a piece of junk. The watch will still look the same and one day it will go to my son.

They seem to be posting prices on at least one model in a lot of the actually obtainable lines.
