Joy turned to concern

Hello. First time Panerai owner here. I purchased a pre-owned PAM01005. I like the simplicity of the base models and it’s a great looking watch. After purchasing, though, I learned that this model has a snap back case…something I never would have thought to look for in a modern luxury watch.
The watch fits me well, but this one detail is detracting from my enjoyment. I guess I am just looking for insights from the more informed as to how bad I screwed up with this model. Thank you—

Hi,

My thoughts for what they are worth.

100m water resistance is significant and don’t forget the crystal is always (I am sure people will know exceptions) snap in.

I don’t think the snap back should impact your enjoyment of a robust fantastic looking Panerai.

That is easy to overlook but I wouldn't fret. You can always have a pressure test done annually to ease your mind. This is a casual watch and should serve you well - enjoy it - they are big on-style.

Would have been better if the dealer had used proper "Luminor Marina Logo Snapback" naming in the description.

The calfskin strap is the clue to buyers that it isn't a dive watch. After all, the entry base models are styled like the originals and that's the style you liked.

If you don’t plan on swimming with it, it wouldn’t bother me a bit.

There is a reason why this model is one of the base models and entry level of Panerai, but if it's 100m water resistance, you're good. It's a pretty watch, and this would not bother me at all.

It's not the watch, it is the brand. So much out there on this brand and most of it is not good. Look past it and enjoy your watch or get rid of the watch and move away from the brand. So many other brands that work.

Thank you, all. I do feel a bit better now. It is a nice watch to look at, which is what drew me to it. I just assumed it was a more robust diver due to the legend of the brand. Lesson learned. I do wish the AD I bought it from had included this information in the description.

So I am thinking it goes to 100m? that’s further than anyone on this forum will ever dive.

Enjoy your watch and my advise is to stop reading articles written by numpties.

I believe that some Omega watches also have snap backs. This is totally reliable to swim and to dive with (as Padi said, the best is to have your watch tested for water resistance once a year).

You can watch this video, it shows some of the water resistance test in the factory :
