If you fancy a laugh

Have a look at this up for auction, and the corresponding description from the auctioneers!

I can only assume that they asked a chatbot for the description, and published the hallucination without checking. And it's funny that they make such a big deal about the double-stamp, and then don't even show a photo.

If you fancy a laugh

They mention:
"this is one of the earliest Submariner models produced by Rolex. This watch is particularly unique due to an intriguing manufacturing error."

And show the dial printing error:
SUBMARINER PERPETUAL
printed side-by-side (although the minutes hand does obscure PERPETUAL)

instead of:

OYSTER PERPETUAL

An example below of a 1016 of the era

I believe that the manufacturing error they referred to is the double reference stamp on the case, which isn't shown.

"Unique Features: The case of this Submariner was mistakenly stamped with the reference number 6202, which is typically associated with the Daytona watch case. In a rare twist, the original reference number has been polished out and replaced with the correct reference number 6204. Additionally, the serial number was initially stamped for a Daytona case but has since been amended by Rolex."

I really don't get what they are saying about a Daytona reference number. The whole thing is weird.

There are a few early model Submariners with the split dial references. In those early days Rolex experimented with a few designs in a few short years. As for the description here

Strange, considering a 6202 was a turn o graph, not a Daytona

Even though it’s a deceiving description…there’s always someone that will buy into it because it’s old..then they need it repaired and the BS will be disclosed..interesting to see what it’ll sell for

Honestly, with everyone using AI, we are just going to see more and more of this type of thing. Well written, detailed information, with random blatant errors.

I've never seen a dial like that before. Have you got any other examples of the split submariner dials?

The irony is they have a 6202 in the same auction, so they really should know better

To me weirdly sort of Grammatically and rhythmically... If the cap fits....
