5740 or 5990

Have my choice between a 5740 and 5990 1a. Both are tremendous pieces. I'm currently leaning 5740 because of the thin nature of the watch and the majestic blue dial.

This would be my first bracelet nautilus.

Anyone want to throw their 2 cents into this discussion?

Own both, win for the 5990. It just feels like a sports piece rather than a dress piece which to be honest is how most Nautilus feel.

Depends on the feel you are after from your Nautilus.

5740 or 5990

Have both…really hard to compare the two as I feel like they are so different in my opinion. That said, the 5740 feels like a longer term play as you can dress it up or down while the 5990 is a true beast, which I personally appreciate as well…it definitely has wrist presence. For what it is worth the 5740 might be the last watch I would ever get rid of. If you’re paying retail the 5740 is 2x the cost of the 5990A, so that may be a consideration point. In the hierarchy of Patek, most would agree the 5740 is somewhat the top of the nautilus pyramid (excluding special editions)…should you even care.

Good news is that you can’t go wrong. First world problems my friend. Make sure to loop back on this if/when you decide. Best

Tough one! The price is a factor for sure. Just got 5740 and very impressed with it but I get the dilemma.
My friend was just asking me what I think of it and I said it’s kinda like a whole watch collection in one. Checks almost every box. I described it as a panamera turbo s- it’s all you need, does everything and really cool/ really nice. But if you have eight cars when are you going to use it? Like it’s too good.
Not sure that’s any help but you’ll be happy either way. If you get the 5740 you’ll never wonder if you should have got the other one. If you get the other one you have a bunch of money in your pocket which is always nice

Without factoring in price, 5740 is the easy choice.

That's a great picture! I don't really lust after any Nautilus, and will never be offered one, but 100% feel FOR ME that the 5740 is The One.

I own all 3 - 5740, 5990 SS and 5990 RG

To me the 5740 is my favorite and probably gets the most wrist time. The weight, the slim profile, Micro rotor and dial is crazy.

The 5990 RG probably gets the most comments.

The 5990 SS goes a little under the radar.

The one obvious difference is day to day wear - 5990 is a bit thicker/chunkier

As others have said - you can't go wrong - but for me I would lean 5740.

Plus I've never seen one in the wild.

5740 without hesitation.

The pushers of the 5990 are a poor design.

5740 between the two.

The ones I wear most are the 3712 and 5712 though.

Looks like its an overwhelming majority for the 5740. Happy to see that so many share my view. I will be getting one this year from my AD. Will post pics when I get it.

5740 or 5990

Nothing wrong with either, both are amazing pieces.
It really comes down to personal preference, style, materials, complications, and of course budget.
The 5990 is king and one of the last stainless steel nautilus models and likely on its way to being discontinued soon, judging by the direction Patek is going. It’s got more wrist presence thanks to its thickness and pushers, and it costs approx half of the price of the 5740.
That being said… the 5740 is Daddy.

Great pic. 5740 really is "the one watch" to rule them all I feel.

This is a great point. I never seen a 5740 in the wild either but have seen everything else.

I'm looking for something I can wear with a suit or a t-shirt. I don't need the attention but for people who know watches, the 5740 will be unmistakable.
