Grand Seiko 9F quartz movement

I need to have the battery replaced on my Grand Seiko GMT. Going to the AD means they have to ship the watch back to a Seiko service center which takes 4-6 weeks and costs about $100. The turn around time is what I find a pain to deal with. Can any competent watch maker do the battery replacement? Does anyone have experience with this?

It's the same procedure as any quartz movement for battery changes. There are even YT videos showing how to DIY, but I'd go with a watchmaker who can change the seal, too. I've had the Seiko Service Centre change mine twice for $40 each but I'll just get my local guy to do the next one as it's a 3-hour round trip to the SSC. If you want to buy the battery first or check the watchmaker uses the right one, it should be a SR920SW for 9F movements.

I just sent one in and my AD handled everything for me. No cost.

He did the first time for me because it was within the 2 year warranty period.

Come to think of it, my first battery change was also free as it was within the warranty. Watch was bought by me in Japan, battery change and pressure test done in Hong Kong.
