Good website for Rolex, Tag, Breitling, & Omega??
Got a friend in Seattle that is looking for a watch for a 40th birthday for her husband. Are there any good, reliable discount sites online that she can take a look at. I told her to buy him a submariner but she said her budget is 3,500. She wants to buy new. Thanks, Danny

If her husband is more into chronos or wouldn't mind owning a manual wind watch, get her check the Omega Speedmaster Professional "Moon Watch". It has a strong class and a history that her husband would appreciate (or not... it depends on what he finds important about a watch). If her husband is more into Breitlings or more into shinier pieces, there're plenty of choices. For a cheap quartz she could get a Breitling Colt Quartz. For slightly more there's the Colt Automatic or Colt GMT. The Colts are relatively cheap, and only 41mm, so they'd fit any men's wrist. For slightly more than the Colts, there's the 42mm Breitling SuperOcean (more shiny) and the 44mm SuperOcean Steelfish (more subtle). Except for the Speedmaster, you could see that I listed only non-chrono diver's watches. They fit me best, so as they fit a lot of middle-age guys. They're good for everyday wear, and they're good for the beach/pool. If her husband prefers dressy watches, she should ask the salesperson in the AD to show her some of those from Omega and Breitling. Plenty of choices, albeit most dressy chronos (like Breitling Chonomat on Pilot bracelet) may be out of her price range -- unless she can haggle strong. If it were me, I'd pick the black dial whether it is an Omega or a Breitling. It's the safest bet, and it would go with anything. As for discounts, I would push my luck at an AD. On most Omega and Breitling models ADs can lower the list price by 15 to 25% if you pay by cash, and if you can haggle a bit. |

If your budget is limited to $3500, I would advise sticking with the Breiling and Omega brands. Given that your friend also wants to buy new, I would look at:
Alanfurman.com Jomashop.com Both of which are well known and carry new watches. There are many others. I wish your friend the best of luck and happy shopping. If you friend is interested in considering used, she could look into a used Rolex Datejust for around $2,000.00 to $2500.00 roughly. There is even a shop from Seattle which sells on eBay and they service the watches before selling them. |
