I got scam on craiglists.....

I traded one of my watch to someone on craigslist yesterday and got scam. I got a fake wacth in return. I took the watch to a dealer and they did confirm the watch was a fake. Any recommendation on what I should do?

Otherwise, it is a criminal investigation........... fraud is a crime and for the cost of a Rolex, frequently a felony.....

Yes, it was local. All I have is his number. I think he use a fake name. I traded one of my rolex datejust for his omega limited edition.

If I contact the police, I'm not sure what they can do.

Paul, PM me. if you can forward the email he sent you to me we can track down where he sent it from at least (even if it was from a disposable email account)

you could file a police report, but that sounds like a civil issue. Any way to track the address, IP address, list your watch as stolen possibly

That's just terrible Paul, sorry it happened.

File a police report and see what civil actions are available to you. Probably not much chance of recovery but it never hurts to try.

It's only theft/deception if you can prove the other party knowingly committed the transaction. If he was unaware of the fake then he did no wrong. You would be entitled to your watch back as the contract was for a real watch.

Wrong. Whether he knew it was fake or not, does not absolve him from the crime of selling fake goods.

Do you have a bill of sale/contract that states that the watch you received is a genuine and original Rolex product? If you do not, you simply traded a watch for a watch. If this was a face to face transaction, you most likely have little recourse if any.

It was a face to face transaction. I guess I should of inspect more before I agree to the trade. Being too trustworthy really cost me this time.

Paul, I'm very sorry to hear this story, but I think you have very little chance to do anything against the guy who traded watch to you, specially it is face to face deal. He can also say he gave you the real watch, you switch watch and now you are trying to scam him with the fake one. How can you prove the fake watch is the one you got from him?

I thought you traded a Rolex for a Rolex.
In this trade, if you received an Omega and you need a document from the other party that the Omega you received is genuine and original.

Call the police ASAP. The police have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to these types of scams, especially from craigslist. I hope you will be as fortunate as I was.

I once met someone face-to-face to buy a blackberry. Long story short, it was a stolen blackberry and I was unable to activate it with verizon. Filed a police report and yadda yadda yadda. Kept the locked phone and sold it on ebay for parts. 3 months later, the detective from the NYPD that was working on my case called me up and said that the perp is willing to pay back 2.5 times the amount what I paid him to drop the charges. I agreed. The perp dropped off the money to the police precint and I came to pick it up 2 days later.

I hope you will be as lucky as I was. The police should be able to help you. I'm sure there were surveillance cameras nearby where you met where they can get a better visual. Also, they have the power to find out whom the cell phone number belongs to.

Sorry to hear you were scammed on craigslist... it is filled with crooks.

These thieves use fake names, prepaid phones, and revolving email addresses making finding them hard to find.

Time is important so call the police and file a report.

No, he took it off immediately after the trade.

I got my sub 3 days ago and met the guy at rolex service center and he agreed and I looked at it with magnifying glass for 5 minutes and play with the watch. Then I went to the service center and had a final check then I pay him.
You can file your rolex as stolen and let it go from there.

Looks like this guy may be smarter than you think. Global Workplaces seems to be one of those places where you can rent office space by the hour. He could have just been there on their network when he posted the listing and replied to emails.

You should try calling Global Workplaces and talking to their head of security. Give them the info you have and you may get lucky. They certainly don't want this type of thing happening on their property.

Did you try a google search and then clicking on the archive of the page? You may want to do that while you still can and print it out for your records.
