New Member with Questions

I'm new to this forum and the world of Rolex ownership. My Dad passed away earlier this year and Mom gave me his Rolex Dateadjust that he received for his 25th Anniversary (1993) at the company he worked for.

It is a self-winding watch and I do not think Dad ever had it serviced. Anyway one time I was going to wear it, I was setting the time and something gave way almost feels like a gear stripped out. Anyway there is now a spot where I can not advance the hands to set the time.

Any idea what I may have done to the watch?

Is this a common issue?

Any idea what it may cost to fix and service?

Get it serviced

You absolutely need to send it to Rolex for service, it will only get worse. Hard to say what the cost may be but figure on at least $500 usd and it will take a month or so.

The good news is that when you get it back it will look and work like new.

It sounds like you have stripped off a couple of teeth.. The wheels, gears, and pinions are very tiny parts..

A fresh service, as said, is the way to go with this classic..

Expect to pay about 600 bucks, but your heirloom will come back almost as a new watch.........

My last service ran about $500 but it was well worth it because the 25 year old watch came back looking like new. And, you really have no choice, the watch needs attention. Welcome to TRF!!

As suggested above, I would get the watch serviced.
