How to keep your Rolex scratch free!

The following is a list of things you can do to keep your rolex scratch free.

1. Avoid running in to things.
2. Make notice of your soroundings and anticipate. (especially desks/ arm chairs & tables)
3. sleave buttons/ cufflinks/ cloth/ armhair & even microfiber will all cause hairline scratchmarks over time. Short sleaves are prefered. Avoid sticking your watch hand into your trouser or coat pockets.
4. When or if its dirty resist/ avoid whiping down the watch.
5. Dont use your nails to remove dirt.
6. Clean the watch by washing it in water with a mild handsoap.
7. If possible dry it with a hairdryer.
8. In areas where the water is treated rinse the watch with distilled water afther having cleaned it in tap water.
9. Most importantly: If you can not resist whiping down the watch; only use a natural chamois. (not the synthetic version) The chamois should always remain dry and never come in contact with water; or it will loose its natural softness. Unlike cloth & fiber; natural chamois will not scratch shiny surfaces.

Feel free to add to the list.

Or you can put it in a safe immediately after purchase and only take it out for the occasional "viewing"...

Or, much like when you hear a new noise from the car it can be fixed by turning the radio up a bit, just look at your watch and say "Remarkable, not one scratch, looks pretty good to me!"

Or you can just wear the hell out of it and console yourself knowing that it will look like new when you have it serviced!

I have seen plenty of serviced watches. They look a lot better coming out of service than when they went in; but NOT scratch free. This is a myth!

I guess I don't look at my watch close enough.

I would argue that my 8 year old watch looked as good as it did the day I took it out of the box after a servicing from an authorized Rolex Watchmaker.
I am sure there may have been a scratch or two under microscope...but it's a watch that is made of metal and worn nearly every day for 8 years - close enough for me!

The YM took some time to adjust to scratches on PCL but I am getting used to it now - I think lol.

Enjoy 'em, it's why we (most of us) own them.

The same can be said about your car... Parking next to a 2-door junker is just asking for it, but you can always get any scratches or door dings fixed.

Machismo chest beating aside, he has good some advice.

Once of prevention....

How about wrapping it in cling film (Saran Wrap) immediately after purchase.
If you are precise enough and make sure there are no creases, no one will ever notice.
When the cling film gets dirty or wrinkly, simply replace with another piece.
Cheap but effective!
No more hairline scratches or swirlies!

I know I'm new here but I know enough to say that if armhair is going to cause hairline scratch marks over time, JJ is truly and royally screwed... :)

Yep. JJ is screwed by default. He should consider epilating his wrist.

Don't care about scratches as I can buff them out in a heartbeat with my Dremel tool.

Wear the heck out of them and enjoy!

Guys, its just a watch! Enjoy the hell out of it!! Life's too short to be worrying about dinks, dents & scratches.
As many of you have already mentioned, it will look like new when it gets serviced.

The one that gets me every time is adjusting the seat in my vehicle. It's a tight squeeze to reach the levers with the left hand and the watch always comes out with a new scratch after lol.
