Congratulations! I'm still waiting for mine to get shipped from the FAD. I had one before but sold it and bought another one. That's how we roll. It looks great on you!

Quick question. I was offered one with the 861 (?) inside by my AD. What's the story? Good to pick up? He was raving about it.

The big thing about the 861 movement is that it was the one being used during the Apollo 11 flight. That makes it more collectible. This site has some good info on the different Speedy movement variants.

I beg to differ. So far as we know, the three Apollo XI astronauts wore cal 321 models.

Only the cal 321 movements are confirmed to have been worn on the moon. Quoting Chuck Maddox:

We have no documentary evidence to prove that c.861's were used on or near the moon, although we have reasons to suspect that some were used among other brands of watches. This is the rub for c.861's... We can not document their use on or near the moon at all.
From the photos, yours appears to be a current cal 1861 but regardless, your Speedy Pro is still a nice addition, dalip. Congratulations!

Thanks for the input. I guess that would make sense since the 861 wasn't in production until 1968. You're definitely the go-to for Omega info around here.

Thanks for the input here on the 861 and 321. Interesting. I realize mine is the latest 1861 but wanted to get the background on my ADs raving about the 861 he had available. Now I know!!

Thanks very much for your input gents!!!!

And thanks for your continued feedback on my new omega all. :) Appreciated!!

It's great to have to wind another watch now as well as the PAM 183. Although the crown is not quite so easy to negotiate on the Speedy.
