A tale of the pursuit of a Day-Date II

Hello All,

I decided a couple of weeks ago that I needed a Day-Date II. I figured that if I had one of those I wouldn't have to be bothered with remembering the day of the week. The then free (and limited) brain power could be used on other more important things such as which watch is needed next. So off I went to search the local AD's.

My search was for a white gold DDII with either the silver index dial or the rhodium roman. After visiting several AD's I was becoming somewhat frustrated. Each dealer had a platinum version of some dial variant, a yellow gold model, and no WG DDII's at all.

As a side note, the platinum DDII with an ice-blue, diamond-set roman dial is extremely beautiful in person and on the wrist. Never thought I would say that about a watch with diamonds. Anyway...

So, now I wait. I ordered a WG DDII with silver index dial and was told I should have it before Christmas. That will make for an awesome present to myself.

Pictures to follow once it arrives home.

The GOOD thing about buying your own gifts, is that you get exactly what you want. Well, most of the time. Then you don't have to fake enthusiasm, which unless your a good actor is embarrassing. Happy days ahead!

Thanks for all the kind words!

Waiting for a new toy to arrive is always somewhat tough. I was just sort of surprised that none of the local AD's had one in stock. Perhaps they are very popular and sell immediately or is it that they don't sell well and aren't ordered until requested? I guess I could have asked these kinds of questions when I was at the store!

I ran into the same experience when I recently picked up my WG DDII. I ended up getting mine from out of state. My AD did a national search and managed to do a trade to avoid having to special order mine. I was led to believe that the WG isn't a normally stocked item.

Trust me that the wait will be worth it!

I been to a dozen dealers in my area only the biggest inventory dealers had the DD2 in WG, smaller dealers I seen don't even stock and DD2 at all.

My guess is 18kt WG DD are slower sellers Therefore are generally not stocked.

Well....

Got the call and my DDII has been received by the AD and is ready to be picked up.

The bad news is...

I'm out of town for at least another week.

Pictures to follow once I finally have it on my wrist.

I have seen the White Gold with Romans dial in the flesh - absolutely AMAZING.

My advice is to alter your order now - wait the few extra weeks to get this 'knock your socks off' watch. And then post pictures.

Thank you for your advice. I believe that I purchased a 'knock your socks off' watch with a stick dial.

Big congrats on your new watch! Just wondering why not get the ultimate, aka the plat dd2? i too think the diamond roman ice blue dial looks amazing on the plat. It is one of those dial that you really need to see it in person to appreciate it. Cheers!

Well, I don't know about the OP, but I personally don't care for the platty one bit. White Gold to me is OK, not as lovely as my YG, but Platty would be the last option I would choose, even after the pink DDII.

Lets see....

I am the original poster....

...and extremely pleased that I bought myself a white gold day-date II and thought I would share my experience here on TRF....

...and also expressed my admiration of the beauty of the platinum day-date II with diamond roman dial here on TRF....

...and I have never belittled anyone on this forum....

...and I have never said my stuff is better than your stuff to anyone on this forum or in real life....

...and yet some person jumps into my post, not to say anything positive, but to state that his YG DDII is more lovely than my recent purchase.

....and further state that the "platty", which I admire, kinda sucks too.

Normally I would be indifferent to this kind of rude, thoughtless post. This time I let myself become a little offended.

I have no problem with differences in opinions. I certainly respect that some people enjoy one particular metal or another. I also understand that some people dont agree with my opinion. Just the same as I think a solid yellow gold watch sucks, other people love them. Thats what makes this world interesting and also the same reason Rolex makes watches in SS, TT, WG, RG, YG and Platinum.

Wow, didn't mean to stoke so much internet hatred in you - apologies.

As you said, I was stating my opinion, that's what these boards are for.

I'm happy you found a watch that pleases you - I wish you the best and would love to see pictures.
