Watch Rankings
An AD told me there was a ranking of watch makers as to how accurate the watches were, along other criteria, with Patek at the top and rolex sitting about #5. Do any of you know what he was reffering to? Would be interesting to check out.
Thanks Phillip |

For accuracy (not specifically targetting automatics), I think a superquartz would be at the top of a list.

SuperQuartz compensates for temperature changes which is why it is so much more accurate

I heard radio controlled quartz watches are one of the most accurate in the world. Its like having an atomic clock on your wrist. Only less than a second off after one year.

Subjective "polls" and "rankings" are everywhere, as well as unsupported comments and rumors....usually for the purpose of "proving" the sponsors or commentors point... As an item of interest, Forbes magazine just came out with the 10 "essential" items a man should have in his wardrobe....For a watch it was the Submariner - of course, it also said he should have a pair of Levis 501's and they cost 198 bucks, so take that for what it's worth also. |

So if you believe that, the Swatch Groups ETA movement watches are in the Tier 1 luxury category and the lowly Rolex and IWC are only able to make it to a Tier 2...
I shoulda bought a Rado and stuck with the basics.. |

Well, I did not make that list
But I assume that the list is made on the principles "How many watches made per year" + "in-house movements or not". Rolex has now in-house movements ONLY, but then again makes about 900,000 watches a year. Patek has also solely in-house movements but makes FAR less. That makes for a Tier 1. IWC makes also far less watches than Rolex, but does seldomly make OWN movements, but mostly modifies ETA movements. UN + GP, however, would also use modified NON in-house movements, but movements of higher built quality than ETA's (for example PERRELET movements in GP watches!) and also make fewer watches than Rolex per year. This would put them in a higher tier than Rolex.

hmmm i wonder why breguet is below audemars.... i wouldve thought its the other way around.
franck muller has some nice designs but in my opinion it is overprice for what it is. havign said that though some collectors in asia are crazy about them. i saw franck muller's store when i was in hong kong ....PHWOA.....!! you can almost live in the place. funny how this luxury tier doesnt really represent the re selling value of the watches. i think patek and rolex are the only two that holds their resell value best out of all. (except for collectors pieces that is put up in auction houses liek sothebys christies etc) |
