What's your thoughts on this idea of customising your rolex black, as seen here at blackoutconcepts

Not for me sorry and a very limited market if you ever did what to re-sell and IMHO very overpriced for what they are.

Personally I like PVD watches but only if done by the manufacturer- good luck servicing it at RSC

My cousin owned a PVD B & R and when it was scratched the coating came off and it looked horrible. I'd stick with SS

I see some I like, including the picture in this thread, but it's a lot of money and not reversible. I don't care to tie up so much in one watch.

i actually kinda like an all black SUB...apart from compromising the warranty and service from RSC..i dont think theres anything bad..there's a lot of rolex 'purist' here (dont know whether thats the right word ..but i think you know what i mean) so do expect more NAY than YAY..

I can just about get my head past Rolex charging £7,500 for a 116520 Daytona.

There is a lot of engineering, history and brand infrastructure behind it.

Take a 116520, PVD the case and modify the dial with enamel paint ....

.... oh, and charge £16,000 extra to do this.

Incredible.

They also modify a leather bag and sell it for £15,000.

Personally, I would only do PVD on a gold watch... that way, when people ask me what it's made of, I can say "black gold"!

I actually love flat black on some cars, though I usually prefer glossy black (which is always a factory option). The trend started with a Ferrari 430 about 7 years ago (or with rat rods 50+ years ago, depending who you ask). Today, you can find flat-black vinyl wrapping for many cars, which will 1) protect the original paint rather than removing it, and 2) give you the look for < $10k

I"ve seen a couple from Project X and Bamford in person and tried them on...the PVD (or DLC) looks nice, but it smudges worse than the PCL's on my Daytona....not for me.

However it does look great on the cars!!

I'm not big on the way it looks, the extra cost, the fact it might scratch, it's not OEM.

The all black look actually makes the dial appear larger than 40m. I saw one on recently and as someone pointed out, it does make the green sapphire pop.
