Attempted Scam on the WTB Page

I posted a WTB ad for a 16570 a few weeks ago. I received one email, from helsonbronze@hotmail.co.uk. After some back and forth they sent pictures of a black 16570 which looked great. The only problem is that the exact same watch is listed for sale here by member Jacek, who replied that he had never heard of the email address.

Link to his thread:

So, watch out for Helson Bronze.

Cheers.

I didn't go that far but I did inquire about payment:

Quote:
it has to be via western union or money gram i have reference and am shipping via UPS.

i wait to hear from you.
Western Union: sadly the tell-tale sign of a scammer today.

Send him a 'picture' of a Western Union payment... and tell him the money is on its way! Then he'll send you the picture of the watch he has!

It's amazing how lazy they've gotten...showing such easily identifiable pictures from a well known seller on the very forum they are attempting to perform the scam!

Thanks for letting the community know about the attempt!

Trouble is, it's a throwaway Email account, and I'd bet he/she has already moved onto another.....

Personally, and as I've said before, do not put your personal details such as Email and telephone number in the body of your listing.
Always require a PM from a member of the forum, and then you know by their stance in the community if you wish to continue in communication.
Not a fool proof direction, but one that stops outsiders from just replying to any ad viewable by the thieves who prey on this type of scam.

Great advise. I was wary from the start with this one when he/she asked which face I was looking for before sending pictures - so it's clearly someone who is at least a bit of a WIS, but still a rotten scammer.
