I was just cruising an auction site and someone was selling a Submariner. The seller advised that there was corrosion next to one of the lugs, and provided an excellent photo. I was shocked at the degree of corrosion on the case. It appears to be really deep and in a couple of spots along the edge of the case.

What the heck is going on with that Sub? Mine is almost 30 yrs old and it doesn't even have a hint of this damage. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Probably neglected for many years. Even SS will corrode given the right conditions.

You hit the nail right on the head most cases I have seen in vintage watches even when using 309L- 316L was simply down to lack of service and owner neglect.No matter the steel with proper owner care in most cases Rolex watches could outlast there owners.

The boys are right. A Rolex isn't indestructible, it's a tool. Never abuse a tool and it should last forever.
