My First Rolex! Any help on history would be appreciated!
Hi all, Just acquired my first Rolex a really nice Oyster Brevet from I think 1966. I can't really make out the serial except for the first two numbers which are a 1 and 8 I think through research puts it at 1966. It also has Brevet with a + next to it on the 12 position. The crown doesn't have a Plus or Brevet on it but a dash at the bottom. Not really sure what Brevet is though. It is in great condition and keep really awesome time for being a 47 year old movement! Any info on this piece would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Brevet simply means "patented".. Under the Brevet should be the model number..
the dial has be repainted so some important information is missing.. I would look inside the caseback for more information and the movement to pin down the actual age and perhaps the original model number.

Thanks for your reply! I did check under the Brevet and it had 6282 underneath. I can't quite figure out how to get the back off. It's a little trickier than my Breitling and TAG I have. Is there a special tool or trick? Thanks!

Congrats!
I'm sure a watchmaker could pull the back off for you for a few bucks and give you a peek inside. See if you can't find a Rolex certified watch maker. Get pics! I just purchased a new one too.. This conversation makes me want to take my own advice and go have a look at my movement too. |
