Serial# observation

I bought a new sub 14060m back nov 11. It has G- serial #. In for sale section here, I saw bnib just bought new sub c non date with still a G serial #. Just to support the fact we can't go by serial # to date a watch.

One was a G****** and one was a G random?

Or just one that was late on the scene? Hidden under a counter? Rolled under a bed? Left in a safe?

All you could ever date any Rolex watch was a approx date when the case or clasp was stamped this is not always when a watch was made. Both GXXXXXX and random were started to be seen at the ADs latter part of 2010 till present time.Even the newly released Basel 2012 114060m ceramic and the new Skydweller were both reported as GXXXXXX serials. And a few members reported them as being old stock had to laugh at that one as random was the newest they stated.

Perhaps we can now dispense with the age guessing on modern models now that Randoms have been shipping for 3 years. The only thing I can see that will gain in value 10 years down the road (due to the Random s/n) is the worthiness of the warranty card. It will be the only data point closely tied to age.
