Need to identify this Rolex

Hey everyone, I recently came across a rolex watch and can only figure out that it might have been made in the 40's. I would like to know exactly when it was made and an approximate value. I'm not sure yet if I will try to sell it or keep it and get it serviced so I can wear it. The numbers on the outside of the watch between the lugs is 325467. The color of the watch face looks copper. At the top of the watch face it says Rolex Oyster Perpetual. I opened the watch and on the inside it says Rolex Perpetual Chronometer N4609. The inside cover has the numbers 2940 on the bottom. I don't know anything about watches and would appreciate any help. I was told this is probably the best place on the internet to get information about a Rolex. Thanks.

It's probably an Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback ref. 2940 from about 1945.

Condition and originality are always indicators of value for any vintage watch..

Early Oysters are collectable..

From you description, it sounds a Bubbleback model as Larry has mentioned.

Those models are very collectible indeed. If you ask for my opinion, I say that you should hold on to that, especially if its still in all original condition which I think it would be. Those will continue to increase in value over time. If you get it serviced, try to ask to keep all the parts original. Just service and clean the movement.

By the way, welcome to the forums! GLad to have you aboard!
