Average age of a rolex owner?

Hello all. After watching some Rolex videos on youtube and reading the bad things people had to say about the brand (that Rolexes are for oldies blah blah blah), I was wondering what would be the average ownership age of them. Now I am 26 years old and dont really know anyone else my age with them. I'm still a noob when it comes to watches so go easy on me please. I love my GMT2 and I worked soooooooo hard to save up to buy it. But why all the Rolex hate there? Take care all Dan

There was a thread about "how old were you when you got your first Rolex" somewhere here on TRF. Ages seemed to vary, as expected. Cannot remember if it was a poll....would be intesting to see what the average age of first Rolex ownership is here.

I for my part got my first Rolex (an SS Sub Date) at 20 years of age in 1989.

A collegue a work has a DJ and he is about 40.

A supplier I met the other day is about 60 and has had his DJ some 10 years.

44 when I bought my first one in 2006. Up until then I had not been bothered - obviously I knew they were a top watch, but had never thought about buying one. However, one day I was passing my AD's window and made the mistake of stopping for a look - even worse, going inside. It was at that very moment that I was utterly mesmerised by a gorgeous SS Date - I just had to have it.

It is more classic. It is recognized as being the best, etc. My friends who don't know Rolex at all think my 16610 is over 10k. It is all perception from people who don't give a crap about watches.

My first was 29 years btw...

I got my first at age 50 and am 51. I have been able to afford one for many years, just wasn't a priority. I came to realize that life is too short and there was no reason to not have one or more. I have 4 high end watches and will probably own no more. I pay cash for everything and have not made an interest payment on a credit card in almost 20 years. I have saved lots of money for retirement and decided that I want to work for many more years, as I get great satisfaction from what I do, so why not have a toy. Men like toys. We live for toys. My watches, bicycles, cars, etc. are my toys.

You took the words out of my mouth!!!! I barely drink, don't gamble, never pay interest on a CC, always pay cash for toys, and live within my means. No reason to deny yourself anything if all the other bills are paid. Plus I always buy pre-owned. Let someone else take the depreciation hit. Buy cheap, buy twice!!!

I was 18 when I bought my first Rolex. I paid $100 a month interest free since I was in college for a SS datejust. I worked during college to help pay for it since I had received a scholarship. I later sold the watch to buy my wife her wedding ring. It was a great purchase and my felt bad after I finally told her what I did. Actually, it turned out just fine as I used that to help purchase my current GMTII Master c.
