Is 43MM the new 40MM???
Do you think that many of us who wear 40MM today will be wearing 43MM in the future?
40MM is starting to look small to me. If you look at this photo of Ingrid Hoffman it looks pretty good on her. I designed the Explorer 3 to illustrate what a 43MM Rolex Explorer might look like. [/QUOTE]

I, for one, hope not. My GMT IIc at 40mm is as big a watch as I would ever care to wear. I am intrigued by the new Deep Sea but don't ever expect to buy one as I think 43mm is too big for me.

I'd tend to agree with you that the trend of "bigger is better" is here to stay. Where 40 mm was fairly big in olden days, today 40 mm is pretty much "standard" size. I hope the 43 mm DSSD will fit me when I try it on.

Depends on the watch. I have a Tag Heuer Monaco that's 38mm and wears much larger than it is. My Oris TT1 WorldTimer comes in at 42mm and wears much smaller. Rolex pro models [40mm] wear on the large size and fit just right.

I left Rolex for a while & had Panerai, U Boat & Glycine. Size ranged from 44 -46mm but some looked alot larger that the others. It really depends on the design. One criticism I have of Rolex is the Daytona. I think it needs to be 44mm as in keeping with the design & social standing of such a timepiece. Apart from that 40mm is just right for everyday wear.

Bigger watches are the trend. And there are some large guys out there with big wrists that will fit the watches too.
But for me 40 mm is as large as I want to go. 36 mm still suits me well for DJs too. |

I recently had a 48.6 mm Breitling Bentely which I traded off. I thought it was cool when I bought it, but after lugging around a wall clock on my arm, I knew it was just too big. I really don't like the huge watch craze. Once you get over a 40 mm in size, I think they begin to look to big. If you have a huge wrist it might be ok, but on a normal size wrist even the date just looks classy. Just my two cents.
Two thumbs up on Ingrid as well. |

Any American Idol fans: check out the watch Randy Jackson is wearing; I don't know what it is, but man, is it big...

for normal angmohs 43mm is ok, for normal asians 40mm is ok, it depends on your race and your size. if u r a small size angmoh, 40mm can be too big also, similarly if u r a fat asian, 43mm may be just nice (angmoh = caucasian in Singlish , Singlish = singaporean english)

I think its silly to make these huge watches, all through time we try to make things smaller. Now we go the other way. I wouldn't be surprised in 10 years or so the value of these huge watches will be greatly reduced because people will realize that tiny is tasty
Soon it will be like opening a mid size rolex, all case and a little womans movement inside. Although the solid gold ones will still be worth something |

I don't do trends, even popular ones. Like John, I also appreciate the efforts, but I like 40mm more. 42mm absolute max!

I just recently bought a Panerai and is 44mm. I like the fit. And of course SD 40mm and is just how you feel one day. Know what I mean. I like both...

40mm is as big a watch as I would want to have on my wrist. No larger, no smaller, just right.

I guess it really depends on how big you are, how big your wrist is and how you like to present yourself.
If you are like Schwarzenegger 43mm is just fine. If you are a 5'4 Asian with small wrists 40mm would be too big. It will be interesting to see the DSSD in person. I think Bo has a 43mm Yachtmaster II. Bo perhaps you could chime in and tell us what your impression is. Also, how tall are you and how big is your wrist? |
