Selfridges London

Sorry this is my first post and have been lurking for a while but I'm interested in whether or not other people have had the same awful experience at selfridges in London.

I'm the owner of a submariner purchased recently and have a white faced SS Daytona arriving within the next month and want to add a GMT to my collection.

Today the assistant just totally ignored me in favour of immediately running to the attention of some Chinese tourists who were carrying LV shopping bags. Quite honestly I'm appalled given the experience I've had purchasing my first Rolex and ordering my second.

were the other rolexes purchased there?

i agree with you about the attention being given to rich looking customers - have had the same experience in the Rolex section - was in there wearing jeans and shirt to enquire about DD40 models and they were more interested in talking to some wannabe celebrity type people looking at steel watches

that said the staff on the tables in the center (AP, Tudor etc) i have found to be very good, always willing to show watches, had some great conversations there

one thing i have noticed is that, in my experience at least, the staff there do not talk to you unless you approach them first...maybe they have been told to be like this - in my opinion prefer this as sometimes just want to browse without any pressure

I would not get annoyed, I would go back and ask for the manager and complain at the Sub-standard treatment you experenced.

I had a good experience there recently, had 3 of them buzzing around me, the only place it's nice to have your gold Rolex noticed , but the lighting outside the boutique is still appalling, must be a Harrods guy in charge of the fittings.

There is a lot of staff turnover in that area of the store. One guy Tim has been there a few years and I tend to seek him out as he knows what he is doing. Must say the Rolex guys have usually been helpful.

Thank you for the replies. I was very excited to be looking for the GMT but maybe I was dressed down by their standards but I expected better. My local AD couldn't do enough for me when I wanted to order my Daytona so I think you're right and I should give my business to those who deserve it!
