Jonah Lomu

The All Black legend that is Jonah Lomu passed away yesterday at the tender age of 40, following a heart attack.

6' 5", 19 stone (266lb) and capable of 100 metres in 10.8 seconds, this man was a two-legged freight train who raised the profile of rugby union in the same way that Muhammad Ali did for boxing; Michael Jordan did for basketball; Tiger Woods for golf; and, Usain Bolt has since done for sprinting. Unstoppable on the pitch and a shy, humble man off it.

It's very sad. A legend who has had his health troubles since a young age but tried to never let it slow him down.... literally. As you said he could run like the wind which for a guy so big was astonishing. The videos of him running towards the try line with a trail of people hanging onto him are great. Almost nothing could stop him. A beast on a rugby pitch but a very humble family man off it.
RIP

Very sad indeed.

Ex-Wallaby Peter Fitzsimmons described Jonah Lomu as a "freight train in ballet shoes" which seems a particularly apt description. He had power and size combined with speed and agility.

He also seemed like a truly humble guy.

RIP.

Awesome athlete, humble man, sadly health robbed his unlimited talent.
