Fake Daytona's
Hi guys
Just wanted to give you heads up on a fake Daytona that I received in the store the other day. The fake had the CRB engraving, with a serial number. Also serial and model number between the lugs and on the bracelet. It had a "new" style bracelet with the fold-over link extension. The only thing that gave it away for me immediatly, was the dial had the red subdial edges, which you see only on the 18k Daytona's. After I noticed that I inspected the bracelet and case, and than it became clear to me that the watch didn't have to quality of a Rolex. But to non-WIS' it would have been a really hard catch! Keep your eyes open, and don't buy from somebody you don't know, unless they're an AD!

No wonder it was in for repairs.
What kind of movement did it have in it? Was it someone who thought it was genuine? Are you the one who get's to tell him the bad news? It would be interesting to hear where he got it from. Terry Newton

He did think it was real, but he said he didn't pay for it yet, he had asked to get it authenticated first. I'm always the one that get's to tell the news to the customer. I don't mind really, it keeps my days interesting sometimes! He said it was a friend's watch... but that's what they ALL say! I've had numerous customer's leaving the store with tears in their eyes... It's a shame, but a lot of times they should have known better, so I don't really feel sorry for them.

Vanessa, thank you for sharing this. It is truly a frightening story and I can only imagine how horrified the owner was when they got the news

There is one particular....
....counterfeiter that will AND can reproduce ANY Rolex, including the infamous Monte Carlo, so WELL, that it is VERY DIFFICULT to tell the difference. They even use genuine mvmt's AND dials in some of them. Springer knows about this site, as I turned it over to him.
BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!! Stan. |
