Re-discovering the Explorer
I gave an Explorer 114270 to my dad last year in October. He's been wearing it daily ever since. It was my gift to him, knowing he like's 'em classic and handy, a man who appreciates his JLC Reverso Classique from way back when, a discontinued TT beauty. A man of contradictions has he has a solid 18K Zenith Daytona sitting in the safe.
Two days ago we decided to swap watches. He clipped on my Explorer II Blanc, and I his 114270. It's been fantastic. I love the compact nature of the piece. I missed the date a few times, but hey, it's been keeping good time, being a minute or so off since October and going strong. I think I'll wear it for the week and see how it fares. Pics to follow. |

Yes, Lee, it is a real pleasure to put on an Explorer after wearing a GMT IIC or SD for a week or two. You feel like you don't have a watch on and the clean design is a total visual change. I love my Explorers and frequently work them into the rotation.

The Explorer sure is a classic beauty. Can't wait to see it on your wrist.
Don't get too addicted to it, though, since I would expect your father wanting it back again.

The Explorer 1 is a classic, one of my understated favorites of all time. Wear it in good health. I've worn my mine with everything from shorts, suits, slacks and even a tux ! The slim form fits under cuffs and shirt sleeves very nicely.
