Sub 5513, 1967 help

Hello all!

Im new to vintage rolex and was hoping for some advice/opinions, this is what I know:

The watch is a Rolex sub Circa 1967. Reference 5513, serial 161XXXX. Signed automatic calibre 1520.

from what i've read on http://www.5513mattedial.com/ it seems to be a pre meters first, gilt gloss dial, but there wasn't really much information on the website. is that a bad thing?

my questions:
is this a good/bad example of a 1967, 5513? (I know the pictures aren't the best)

Is there any value in a "pre meters first" or is it something to stay away from?

Is there anything else you can tell me about the watch/reference?

Dial should be a meters first matte for that serial. Earlier dials were glossy gilt, and also meters first.

Joe welcome to the forum.
As has been pointed out, most collectors would feel better if that watch had a meters first matte dial in place of the one currently in the watch. The dial currently shown in the pics is a non serif dial which replaced the meters first matte dial in late 1969/early 1970 starting close to the 2.0 mil serial range.
As Beelzy pointed out, Submariner dials prior to the meters first matte dial are referred to as gilt/gloss dials rather than "pre meters first" because these dials have the depth rating with meters first as well.
The gilt/gloss dials are highly valued by collectors and tend to trade hands at a premium to the matte counterparts.

Thank you, I will give your site a read, I would love a vintage sub, would hate to end up with a raw deal. Think I need to do some more research!
