I have to share this awful experience
So here's a quick story, you might want to sit down!
I was at a friend of my partners for dinner last night. Nice meal, nice couple, it was the first time I had met them. My partner has worked with the wife for a few years and they finally got around to arranging a night for us to come over for dinner. The conversation was flowing, having not met them before we were talking about all sorts and the conversation turned to watches. My partner mentioned that I had an unhealthy watch obsession, particularly with Rolex. At this point the husband had a huge grin on his face and with a smile and wink said he had something to show me. He returned from upstairs with what at first glance looked like a Yellow gold Daytona. Well it was, sort of, but it wasn't......... He passed it to me and within half a second I came to the conclusion it wasn't genuine, it felt nowhere near heavy enough to be made of gold, but I looked over it and everything else looked OK. He was staring at me waiting for a reaction, I asked his where he got it from. He said it was left to him in a will from a friend. I asked if he had it checked out to see if it was real (it was the politest way I could think of phrasing it that it didn't feel right to me) It turns out that it was in fact a genuine Daytona! BUT (here's where you might want to grab a sick bag) he had it "modified" by one of these places you can send things like IPods to get them gold plated!!!!! I was genuinely speechless, I didn't want to be rude and tell him what I actually though, but I was disgusted hahaha, who the hell would do that!!!! WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:ba nghead: Last edited by Flawlesswatchcompany; 19 February 2016 at 02:28 AM.. Reason: Spelling |

His watch, he can do what he wants with it.
The fact it was a ghastly mistake is nothing to do with any of us. Regards Mick |

I was expecting a more horrible story. Some people have better taste than others. It is ok :).

I agree. If he enjoys it, what's the harm? Not everyone will be as anal retentive as this crew: stressing out over lume quality and chamfers...

Man! I was expecting something like, he came back with a gun and robbed you or something. He can paint it green if he wants.

Not your watch - why should you care? Sounds like he was proud of it. Now, if he took yours and had it faux gold plated, or whatever, then you should be more direct. |

Who cares? It's his watch so he can do whatever he wants with it as long as he enjoys it.
To each his own.

Well, you can remove pvd and DLC coating so I would think the watch could be restored fairly easily I suppose.

There are certain things that are acceptable. This is not one of them... please take the watch and have it destroyed.
I'm kidding of course but my reaction would have been the same! WHY!!! Well to each their own I suppose. |
