Making a 1977 16013 "right"

I'm looking for some advise regarding my datejust that I bought secondhand just over 25 years ago, in the days pre internet I didn't know what box it would have had when it left the factory, its been bugging me for sometime that it may have been the wrong box (even more so these days), can anyone let me know if the attached is (A) The box's are right or not (B) If not what box's should I be looking for? Its a case of although I'm still very happy with the watch, but I just want to make it "right"

Yes that looks like you have the president box. The watch most likely came with a smaller green box; Something like:

Note the numbers on the ebay listing suggest it's from a late-70's watch, which is near your 1977.

This style was used in the 70's, then they changed to a green box with a brown suede 'pillow' inside. Do a google image search for "rolex 16013 box"; it will show lots of examples of both styles of box.

Those both appear to be Bufkor boxes, which weren't used in the OP's country (UK) as far as I know.

So quick question - do you have the papers? For myself it wouldn't matter, but without papers, the correct box doesn't either.

Here's why - a complete set only matters if you are selling it and the box alone won't impact that.

And unless you know what country code was on the papers, you can't know for sure which box would be used. For example, here in US, Rolex USA switched around on box suppliers. Other point is that seller was selling you an almost 15 year old DJ back 25 years ago. And who knows what the AD did when he bought it. Before the box mania, if the AD had run short of the cheap green boxes would any of us complain if we were "upgraded" to the beautiful wood President box?

Agreed I'd be quite happy with a Presidents box for my DJ!

This isn't a Red Sub, so I don't see the box making any difference in the value - that comes down to dial, hands, case, and bracelet for this model

Thanks for the input unfortunately I do not have papers for the watch, and my thoughts are nothing to do with value (there is no chance of this watch being sold in my lifetime), its just a case of I was thinking having the watch as original as possible.. After your input it has given me something to think about before deciding to go ahead and replace the box or not.

Has anyone ever done a thread on the topic of types of boxes used, markings, etc.?

I've tried searching for this in the Reference section but "box" is too common, too short or something along those lines.
