Advice on an BNIB Daytona 116520

I've been offered the last Black Dial SS Daytona from an AD and I don't know if I should take it or not.
I'm on the list for a white dial 116500 but they do not have one yet to offer me.
I already have a white dial 116520 only 8 months old.
Does anyone think the Black Dial 116520 BNIB will be sought after now it's a discontinued model?
(I know they made a lot of them)

I think when you get that 1st scratch on the bezel of the the new 116520 it will drive you crazy (it would drive me crazy) and you will be wanting the 116500.

It will always be sought after as much as any other mass produced Rolex.

Not sure what your goal is?

Personally i don't think it will go up in value until around the 40 year old mark. So wouldn't be so concerned about trying to make an investment with this watch. Its not going to work.

Sought after? Doubt it. Buy the watch you want...don't try to figure how what's going to be sought after.

Would buying the 116520 now keep you from buying the 116500 when it's your turn? If so I'd wait for the new one and not risk the steel bezel will appreciate, or even hold it's value, once the ceramics are widely available. Is the AD offering a nice discount for the 116520?

I wouldn't think ADs would deal on the current 116520 normally without a relationship...discontinued and hard to get a hold of normally....hence the new pricing on the grey market is up above msrp.

Personally I picked up both the white and black 116520 and am on the list for the 116500 when it comes. I'm not looking particular for it to go up in value but I didn't want to miss the boat as I think the steel bezel has its own unique/classy look that the new ceramics lack.

Is it a deal? If not, I'd just wait. You can get one on here for much cheaper otherwise.

Ceramics seem to be the way of the future on many brands, I don't think the older models will rise in value, more likely the opposite.

I think intend to agree.
But sometimes things come around, so will the discontinued SS models be the vintage of 20 or 30 years from now?, when all you can get then is ceramic case, bezel, bracelet and then maybe look for "vintage" metal watches.
Really appreciate the insights. It certainly keeps the brain engaged on this forum.

I've just bought a new 2016 black dial 116520 and I'm waiting for a white dial ceramic 116500....I think they'll be perfect rotation watches.

The vintage Rolex "thing" is the cause of this speculative thinking. I don't like any Daytona of any stripe, but if I did, I'd get the cheaper of the two.

It's the same watch, when all is said and done. OK, I have three different Subs - but they have different movements inside, and that's what makes them different.

Advice on an BNIB Daytona 116520

Since you have the white 116520 already and it's a random s/n, the black one could never be the "last 520" alive. So no it has no extra value above your white one.

Stay on your 116500 list, there's no need to think the 2015-2016 520's will rise in value. But if they did, that tide would raise your white one as well. Nobody would ever be able to prove which Daytona was "the last one sold" a few years from now.

(BTW, it may be their last one received from Rolex but another could show up from another AD tomorrow afternoon)

I should have said the last 116520 that the AD were expecting to ever get.
I agree that we would never know the real last one.
Its just an itch I have that could really fit in the collection but still be different.
Im torn.

Impulse buying is what sellers always hope for..

However, if this is one that you like and expect to put in your collection at some point in time, now is as good as any.

But don't be compelled to buy a watch that is still pretty common and not likely to be difficult to find for many years to come..

No crystal ball here but my advise is to buy what you will wear and enjoy.

Imo buying a modern day Rolex with hope of value appreciation for the next generation may be more realistic.

But I will still buy what sings to me and not what the world says, no offense to anyone.

all the hype around being a discontinued model is being run up by the dealers, i saw the price of second hand ones go up by $1000 over here the day Rolex announced they were discontinued........... what a crock of SH*T!
They are not exclusive nor in short supply(i can find at least 15 second hand ones in KL alone at dealers and quite a few brand new grey market ones)
its going to be a long time until they become "collectible" as a vintage watch.

just wait to get what you want as the new ceramic will prob outshine the older SS ones...

look at the 16610 vs 116610 or the 16613lb vs 116613lb? the older ones are a LOT cheaper and not in demand as "collectible" because there is still a lot on the market

Well that my 2 cents(and at the current exchange rate of the Ringgit here its not worth much lol!)
