What Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch do you prefer? Plexy or sapphire?

Hestalite for me please.

I think it fits the heritage of the watch and refinishing it is an easy 5min job.

Although there is only one historically significant for space travel I do prefer the sapphire as well for an everyday watch. I would take either one though because to me the Speedmaster would be the watch in my collection that gets wrist time here and there.

Hesalite. I have three, and only once had a scratch back in 2002 that was very easily polished out.

Similar, but less rare I'm afraid. That is actually the Apollo 11 35th Anniversary model, reference 3569.31.

Whilst sapphire probably has its advantages in terms of durability etc, got to stick with hesalite for originality and likeness to the original!

Hesalite without hesitation. Gives the dial a much warmer appearance. Scratches are no problem - a few minutes with a Q-Tip and Polywatch and it looks as good as new.

Hesalite, for sure.

You can simply use any whitening toothpaste to remove tiny scratches on it.

The sapphire has that ugly milky ring at the edge.

I chose the sapphire.

1) I like the optics of the sapphire better
2) scratch resistance for a daily wearer
3) sapphire caseback

I don't even notice the milky ring around the edge anymore. It just blends it with the watch.

That ring that the sapphire dial has bothers me.

For those who don't want scratches on the crystal, I just polywatched my newer SMP and it looks as good as new. The Hexalite has so much more character and it is the REAL moon watch. No other watch I know is so close to a real version of its vintage self!
