Box and paper value for 5513
What premium would box and papers add to a matte 5513? The seller I'm dealing with says they're worth at the very least $1,000.

Sounds fair but all depends how you see it.

0 to some, lots to others. I think they would add more to the value of a great example than they would to a crappy one.

This is becoming more and more apparent as it becomes increasingly difficult to find "collector level" timepieces. Box and papers really enhance the collectability of vintage watches that are in excellent condition. It's like the cherry on top. That said, box and papers can't make a damaged or overly polished reference suddenly desirable (lipstick on a pig). _________ Instagram:@onthedial |

Exactly.
If the watch is a poor example, they are worth zip.. or at least should be to you. If it is a mint, or high quality example, provenance can only add to it's value. Do not fall into the trap of thinking that it adds $xxx to the price in every case.

I would say punched papers add more than this, but hand-written ones add nothing for me unless supported by credible, additional evidence.

My perspective regarding handwritten warranty papers is that they weren't that common, but did occur. After all, it was just a paper giving the buyer some peace-of-mind detailing their warranty upon their purchase.
Buyers should evaluate their purchases according, whether the warranty or chronometer certificates/papers are typed or hand written.

even the punched papers could be dubious.... there was a nice little scandal on this some time ago
paranoia is never good but since the premium for papers has become high, the scammers will be there...

If the guarantee paper and box are legit, it's definitely worth an additional $1,000. That's a bargain. Most dealers/sellers jack up the price a lot more than that on a vintage sports Rolex, especially if it is a true full set.
