Deep Black

Hey Guys,

I went and spent some time with the Deep Black today. I loved it when it was announced but thought it would be too big for my 6.5" wrist. Surprisingly, it doesn't wear large at all. Well, it wears large, but not monstrously huge like I thought it would. Also threw on the DSOTM to compare.

What do you think? Anybody else interested in this piece? I'm seriously thinking about picking one up.

I'm quite interested in seeing these new pieces in person. Hoping when I get a call in November from my AD that my Moonphase is in, they'll also have these to check out.

I am a little worried that they're too similar in look/feel to the xSOTM watches and thus owning a Pitch Black will make the Deep Black feel a bit redundant. Having tried them both on side by side, what do you think? Could you see yourself owning both and not feeling like they're too much alike?

I tried them at a preview event.. I thought like you it fits amazingly well on small wrists like myself (6.6“) but I still think it's way monstrous in thickness. If you can pull off the watch, I'd get it's amazing.

Did the normal strap fit? Tightest hole? Comfy on deploying? I like Orange rubberized PO titanium but didn't even bother thinking too large? Should I revisit for my 6.5

You have the Pitch Black, which has more of a matte surface on the case and dial, so if you got the all black DB, which has a shiny finish, they just might be different enough. I say go for it, they're cool as hell.

I had the deployant on the tightest hole and it fit perfectly. Felt great on my wrist, and the ceramic is light so it didn't want to flop around or anything. The rubber straps are really supple and comfortable. I would really recommend at least trying it on, you may be surprised like I was.

Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely have to hunt one down to compare side by side.

Haha, right! I live right next to Brookfield Place, but the guy there was a dick to me. I much prefer the 5th Ave boutique, which is where I tried these on.

They certainly grew on me. At first I didn't like them at all but as more pictures came out it blew me away. I'm can't ever see myself getting any ceramic watch but it's clear why some would in this case.

I thought I would love the DSOTM. I tried on the black black and although stunning felt too light. I also felt the price to be too high for the watch. IMO

There is no coating at all on these nor the xSOTM watches. The cases are made and carved out of a single solid block of 100% ceramic.

There is a little debate on durability by some whom are worried about its ruggedness. I can say from personal experience owning an xSOTM, that these watches are solidly constructed. I've worn mine regularly for quite a while with absolutely no babying. Banged it many times while out and about living life. The result is not only no cracking/case damage but also not a single scratch anywhere. With certainty, if I had been wearing one of my SS watches, there would be battle scars to show.

They're fully ceramic watches so that won't ever come odd, of course. My only fear with a ceramic case is shattering over time. Once insured though it won't matter.

You looking at the Blue or the all Black? I have a DSOTM already, but I'm not sure if the Blue is too "Cheap" looking or not.

They have 42mm AND 45mm? It looks smaller than the DSOTM

The xSOTM versions are all 44.25mm in case diameter while the Deep Black line is all 45.25mm. Deep Blacks are also approximately 1mm thicker.

Not to resurrect an old thread, but on a whim (and at the salesperson's urging) I tried on the Deep Black over the weekend after ignoring them for a few months. Previously, I'd never tried on a Planet Ocean bigger than 42mm because I thought anything bigger would be too much for my 6.75-7" wrist--especially since I'm not a big guy.

The Deep Black blew me away. I loved it! I wore it for a good 20 minutes while my wife chatted with the salesperson. The Deep Black is very comfortable and wears smaller than the 45.25mm suggests. I love the traditional dive bezel and the GMT integrated into the dial. Is anyone aware of another GMT integrated into a dive watch like that?

Curious to know if the OP ended up getting a Deep Black.

EDIT: I saw on another threat that as of late February 2017, the OP had not purchased a Deep Black. If Omega reduces the size to 42/41mm, I'll buy one in a heartbeat.

Hey, OP here... As you've already noted, I did not get the Deep Black yet. At the time that I started this thread I was trying to decide between the Deep Black and the DSOTM. Since then, I have adopted more of an "economy of collection" policy and will not be adding anything at all.

But I still love the DB. Like you, I like how the GMT function is secondary to the watch's main function as a dive watch. That GMT hand really does not distract at all, but adds great functionality.

I see them popping up here in the For Sale section for around $8k...and I must say I am tempted all over again!

Keep us posted on whether or not you pick one up!

Dave, I appreciate the response. No plans to get a Deep Black just yet (a SeaDweller and IWC are atop my list for now). Plus, I want to see if Omega reduces the size to something like 42/41mm in the next year or so.

Love the subtle GMT integration. It's so tempting to me because a decent portion of my international trips are dive trips. I can wear a dive watch and also keep track of time at home for work. Plus, the traditional dive bezel is useful to time parking meters, cooking, and so on. Will keep TRF posted if I take the plunge.

Look closely at the inner ring...24 scale is on the outer edge of the dial...subtle, yet utilitarian (as someone that uses a GMT function daily at work)...beautiful in person, a dream to wear...despite case thickness, incredibly light (however, not in 'cheap-plastic' way at all)...rubber strap contours perfectly around the wrist, with very little movement or rub
