Patek 5146g - White or Slate Gray

Hey Gang,

Just wanted to see which dial everyone thought looked better on the Patek 5146g (White Gold) version - White (Cream) or Slate Grey. Looking to purchase one in the next few weeks. Currently leaning towards the Slate Grey dial as it looks a little more modern or up to date (to me anyways).

Thanks in advance for your comments!

I agree with Karl.

Would have loved have got the slate dial, but in the end went with the cream dial, due to the increase in legibility.

That said I am contemplating selling/trading my two against a 5146P!

Now position to be in

I prefer the grey, but both are great. Grey seems perfectly legible to me.

Thanks for the comments. None of the Dealers in Chicago have it in the Slate Gary Dial...only the white. Hence, I've never seen it in person. When I asked why not, the largest chain here in Chicago said because they havent had a request for the Slate Gray Dial from any customer since June of 2015...

Both are great , I had both . Cream has better legibility no question, and offers a nice contrast as well. Slate grey doesn't has the visibility that the cream dial offers but that doesn't mean that the visibility is bad either, you can read the time fine. I think the slate gives the watch a more modern look/ sleek and the cream gives the watch a more classic look.

So there is no better or worst , is just knowing what advantages are more important to you.

Modern, good visibility, more monochromatic----Slate

Classic, excellent visibility, more contrast ---- Cream

Thanks for all the pictures! The Platinum version shown in the picture with the pink shirt looks awesome but I thought that model has a different shade of Gray then the other versions..

You are correct. The platinum has a different dial color than the WG.

It's described by Patek as Sunburst ebony dial

When i saw them side by side in the metal, i was convinced i would like the grey dial of the platinum watch better than the wg one.

Turns out it was the other way around and i much prefered the grey dial of the wg watch which i found more vibrant and more alive if that makes sense.

It makes sense to me. The slate dial is amazing in the way it handles light, and this doesn't come over well in pictures.

Plus there's a ludicrous premium for platinum, as is usual in Swiss watches.

The slight difference in dial between these two is not the big picture here. On the wrist the platinum is amazing, you really feel like you are wearing a watch , no contest. Imho..... not to mention that you get a clean dial (no arabic numbers)

Wow, yeah. Whenever I wear my 5146G I'm really troubled by the fact that I'm not really wearing a watch. Plus those awful arabic numerals.

It really is amazing how humans can justify wasting (arguably) their money!

Don't be that hard on your watch bro , I owned that watch for a couple of years and I enjoyed it a lot, actually I like it so much that I bought it again but in cream dial. I am just saying the weight and how the platinum feels on the wrist is unparalleled And yeah the Arabic numbers are not awful but the dial looks better without them

I have a platinum watch (FP Journe), and I don't agree. It feels like any other watch.

The ultimate in this line is the 5450P, not because it's platinum, and not because of the (arabic) numerals, but mostly because of the movement and the salmon dial. That's what I'd trade for.

Both have there own charm...

Slate is very beautiful in the sun light...

White is so much easier to read time...

Between the two choices, white for me for better legibility and a more cassic look.

If its AC that you are looking for, take a look also at the 5205s if you haven't done so.

Its funny you should say that. I was getting ready to purchase the 5146g with the Slate Gray face when my local AD called me today and got the 5205 in Black/Gray Combo in. Now I want that watch. I really like the skeleton case on it. Because I'm 40, I think it looks a little more modern while still exuding that Patek Charm.

If you are gonna get the 5205 , get the R black dial ...I loved that watch while i had it ....it just didn't match my lifestyle or tell ben to enable you with his cream dial version

Here is the black one that I had
