Newbie here needs intervention

I think I have a problem. I just became a member here last week. It took me all of one day to buy a BLNR from the classified section! I’ve been into watches a very long time but this is by far the nicest piece I’ve owned. I’m loving this watch so much that I’m literally obsessing over wanting to acquire more. Somehow having this one on my wrist changed everything.

So my question is for those of you that have already been down this road, how do you control yourself from selling everything you own to buy more watches?!?

This is the correct answer. No joke. The enabling is from multiple angles. The most basic form is encouragement to buy more watches, which happens often. Then there is the comparison angle: the watch you think is the greatest in the world is "just another Rolex" to a lot of members here with advanced collections, which could lead you to thinking you might want something more. Additionally, there is the "put-down" angle, where certain people actually don't like your watch model. Repeated exposure to the criticism could lead you to become discontent with your watch and wonder if something else might be better. There are countless tales here of people who flip a watch, regret it, and buy it again, sometimes repeating this process multiple times. Really, if you step back and think about it from an objective perspective, there is a lot of reckless consumerism engaged in by the members here, and they're all encouraging each other.

This is a great forum in a number of ways, but I will say I actually enjoyed my 116610LN a lot more - and craved other watches a lot less - when I wasn't hanging out here.

IDK about the bold, tbh - I like what I like, regardless of how others feel.

I do too, but I'd be lying if I said constant exposure to negativity hasn't made some kind of an impact. As much as I love my SubC, I sometimes have to make a conscious effort to remind myself of that after reading countless comments about how "everyone has one," or how disproportionate the case design is.

Maybe I'm just a hothouse flower. I believe there is a fair amount of pack mentality here, though, even if not everyone is susceptible to it. I see evidence of it all over the place.

Delete account.

If you're just gunning for moderation, just decide how soon you can buy another watch and what that watch is. Write both the target and the date down. Use that time to research it, identify market pricing, credible sellers, etc. And then make sure you still want that watch when the date comes around. Sometimes the lust will pass.

You're doomed, buddy. Run away, right now, unplug your internet, break your wrist so you have to wear a cast for 6 months, become a recluse, don't shave any more, and stop eating real food.... maybe then you will be ok.

Other than that, welcome to the club. Come on in the water is fine. If I may, you really should check out a LVc Hulk. It will compliment your BLNR very nicely. I should know, that's what this forum did to me. I swore over and over, I'm done....done...I have enough watches to last a lifetime. 3 weeks of active TRF and I now have a Hulk. Its great.

If you have 1 watch and you think you need intervention already.....IMO you're off to a great start.....recognizing the problem. I will say the best way to stop buying watches is to enjoy the collection (wear your watches and have fun with them/make memories with loved ones) and stop looking at classified sections here. Let the desire just to buy something pass and come back to buying the next watch you really want.

The best way to know if you have a problem is to buy a second one. If it still persists then you have to buy a third to ensure there is not an issue.

If after the third purchase and you still want more, then the correct answer will always be watch collection = N + 1

I live in a cardboard box under a highway overpass, but I've got some great watches. I'm okay with that.
