This may sound like a silly question, but are a lady or a gent?

My wife has always been a Rolex lady......and in the last 28 years has owned just 2 models.

Her very first one was a TT DJ (midnight blue dial, second one too a TT DJ (champagne dial) and now a TT Lady YM (29 mm) with slate-grey dial!!

JJ I am jealous. that's my favorite version of the ym. 2-tone with slate/grey dial. I hope one day to own the full sized version

I bought my wife this same watch as JJ's in the mid-size version and she LOVES it. It is a stunning watch.....the slate dial makes it feel a little dressier (IMHO).

One of my friends, has one of the best jeweler shops in Athens, and happens to be the AD of Longines among others.

Years back, in early 80’s his wife had a TT DJ, and when I expressed my surprise he said “nothing else would survive three kids”

My wife wears a SS DJ white gold bezel midnight blue dial. And my kids are now 10 and 12.

I realized from own experience what my friend meant 20 years ago.

I'm sorry, I think you misunderstood. I wasn't implying that your question was silly. I was stating that mine was silly asking whether you were a lady or a gent!!

Since I'm a woman and I bought a Rolex, obviously I considered the brand. I also looked at Omega and Tag among others. I chose the Rolex because I liked it the best (it's the one that smiled at me) and because the purity of an in house movement appealed to me. Yeah, I know, it's mostly hype, but--in my case at least--it worked. Also, my recently deceased father wore a Rolex.

I wear a midsize. Not sure if you'd consider that a "ladies" watch. Some do. Some don't.

I also have a vintage (1960s) ladies 14k gold and diamond cocktail Rolex on layaway.

I've seen Rolex print ads. I don't think they had any impact on my decision to buy one.

I am 44 years old.

When it was time to get a "real" watch, after being married for 10 years and making partner at my former law firm, I considered Rolex, but was never a fan of the DJ models. I think that was largely due to the Seiko "homage" watch, but the Rolex DJ was never special enough for me.

I had always liked the sports watch look (Tag's woman's link was an early favorite), but knew that Rolex didn't make a ladies' Submariner. So, I was very pleasantly surprised to find the ladies' Yachtmaster. I was initially interested in the TT-blue face combination (I had always liked the "bluesy" Sub) but when I saw it in person, I wasn't too excited about it. I then saw the SS/platinum ladies' YM. Well, the clouds parted, and the sun shone on that corner of the watch shop while I first laid eyes on that glorious watch. My husband got it for me in 2/01 and I've thoroughly enjoyed it ever since. As I've said elsewhere on TRF I've worn it with business suits, with formal gowns, with sweats, to the beach and in the swimming pool, and snorkeling in Hawaii. It is one of life's little pleasures to look at it every day, to think of my good fortune in having a wonderful husband, and having the financial means to afford such a great watch.

I recently tried on the mid-sized YM and it was too large for me (even though I am 5'8", not a petite waif).

Thank you so much for your reply and this is what i want. Firstly I thought Rolex was a bit too bulky for a woman, women would not even consider it when decided to purchase a watch.

Well, I have one more question to ask. Does anyone here know about the market share of Rolex??

I bought her a Special Edition Longines after we had been married 8 years (she was 35). The next Rolex (WG PM) I bought her was on our 12th anniversary (she was 39). I have had her next Rolex (WG Daytona Diamond Pave)put away in my safe for over 2 years now until I decide when to surprise her with it (she is now 45).

While she admitedly knows very little about Rolexes she does appreciate having beautiful watches. About 4 years ago I offered to sell her first TT DJ since she doesn't wear it much anymore but she declined due to "sentimental" reasons.

I bought my wife a 31mm Breitling w/ a pink MOP dial, about 18 months ago. She wears it several times per week. I asked her what she liked, and she told me.

I bought her a Lady Datejust, TT 26mm w/ black MOP dial. Beautiful watch. I bought it for her about a year ago. She's worn it three times, that I can remember. I assumed I knew what she would want.

I have (and have had) several ND Sub's and a Tudor Sub. She wears them ALL THE TIME.

In short, figure out what she wants before you buy. You just might spend $7000 on something that looks great, but doesn't get any wrist time. Had I asked her, she would probably be wearing a Sub or a midsize YM.

Rolex ads are cool, but have nothing to do with my purchasing habits.

Me and the wife are both 39.

No, never (unless it was someone else's money). Not a fan of the ladies' lineup and would gladly go elsewhere if I had to buy my gf/mother a watch. Case sizes and shapes are generally not to my liking.

Don't like Rolex ads in general.

I quit wearing watches about 5 years ago. I mainly wore cheap timex type for my job but I got tired of replacing them every 6 mos! I am a friefighter and they just get beat up all to hell. My BF has a datejust and wanted to get me a nice watch, a Rolex, of course. I couldn't find anything I liked.....too boyish looking, belive it or not I really do like girly things even though I fight fire, haha. Then there it was in an antique store, blingy, vintage, and a ROLEX! Made us both happy. I would wear it everyday (not to work) but I'm afraid I might lose it. But it falls within my taste....older than me....vintage. Although, after having joined this site I am thinking I MIGHT want a smaller ladies datejust or similar. I tried on the BFs watch and I am definately out on wearing a man's watch! Too big. Does that help?

Just flew from Nassau back to Austin 2 weeks ago. In the airport I saw 2 women wearing 18k DD's at different times.

I got my wife one this year and she loves it. She has a small wrist, so she adamantly refuses to consider the larger watch sizes. She tried a few on and hated them.

I hunted around and found her an F series TT Datejust rhodium dial with roman numerals. She loves it, and certainly wears it all the time. It's truely a beautiful watch.

What appealed to me about it was the perpetual movement -- her biggest thrill is never having to fight with some guy at a mall over a $20 battery change again.

The fact that it can be confused with the several homage watches (like the Seiko and Anne Klein ones she previously wore) is not a drawback from my wife's point of view. It doesn't bling out, but if you look close the quality is immediately obvious.

She couldn't be happier, and it made one of the best gifts ever. Normally she has pre-picked some pearls or other jewelry for a gift, and my task is limited to buying the item. But she was very appreciative of the time and effort I spent finding her the right watch.

Hello. I am a Rolex man thru and thru and I used to really like a ladies Rolex. I now must say that I think a ladies Rolex is a bit understated and undersized in terms of reading the small dial. I would rather see a lady wear a mid size Rolex or a sport watch. I think the ladies have been neglected by Rolex through last 20+ years. I hate to say this but I think there are much better alternatives than Rolex for women.
