Do we really need to keep posting ebay ads?

Seriously guys... I know you wanna be a white kinght, but let's be real.... There's thousands of fakes all over the place. There's no point in making a post about someone selling a fake watch, advertised as fake...

I get if it someone selling here, or something like that. But eBay?? C'mon.. all that's happening is your wasting time telling us what we allready know.... eBay is full of fakes.

Not sure how some of them are getting so many positive feedbacks though. A lot of people getting scammed and not knowing?

Lol if you’re dumb enough to buy some of those abominations, you deserve to get scammed.

The positive feed-back comes from previous transactions by the rightful account owners, prior to having their accounts compromised.

Hackers watch for accounts with good feed-back that have gone dormant, and then they post auctions for fake watches, or auctions for real watches they don't actually own.

In response to the original poster, making dubious auctions public here will result in those auctions being reported, and the reports get them removed.

If one uneducated buyer is saved from losing $1,000 or $5,000 or $10,000 to a liar or a scammer, then the actions are worth the efforts.

Agreed. And in the other side, that also means one scammer is stopped from making profit off of someone else.

^^^ agree 100%
To the OP, if you don't like it, you don't need to read this subforum.
Just my .02 but the only person I could think of that would object to reporting fakes is the scammer himself. By no means an accusation of the OP but why wouldn't you want to at least try to control the fakes out there?

Lol I'll put my collection up against yours anyday, or anyone else who thinks I rock fakes.

My whole point is no one's saving anyone. If it's someone trying to post a bunk vintage sub or something, sure. But when your "exposing" ads that are advertised as fake, or at some rediculous price, all your doing is showing how little time you have on your hands.

I come here to learn about the unsavory dealers... Not Peng in China selling a gold daydate for $3,500

Contribution? Upset scammers are being outed on eBay.

I am no rocket scientist but this doesn’t require one to figure it out.

On a personal note . . .

. . . getting fakes and scams removed is a win-win for me.

Not only can I help save a rookie from making an error, but I can also deny a liar / thief / scammer his ill-gotten gain.

Just this morning I saw a Cartier Roadster XL chronograph way under the money on eBay, so I did some investigating.

The seller would not guarantee authenticity of the Cartier.

His Bell & Ross chronograph was being offered for parts only.

His Omega Planet Ocean chronograph had been "inherited", and one of the sub-registers recorded 1 through 7, for the days of the week.

These replicas were offered by a seller with feed-back in excess of 1500 . . .

All three auctions have now been removed and needless to say, I am extremely pleased to get a seller, who relied on his feed-back reputation to cheat people, out of the replica business . . .

It’s worthwhile work.

I used to sell on eBay and probably lost sales to fakes. So I think it’s worth continuing the efforts.

You know that it’s worthwhile when you see the #1 question on eBay is about listing replicas...

what ebay allows to happen on their site is darn near criminal if you ask me. I have mixed feelings about offering them free policing. While I have no desire to see anyone cheated, letting that cesspool burn itself to the ground might not be a terrible idea.

I think eBay tries its best. its not just watches but every item, no company cam police all that.
On the other hand they react to over 95% of our cliams/reports to them.

Thats pretty darn good

Not so sure they try very hard. Tiffany sued Rolex in 2004 after buying several hundred items and finding about 75% of them were counterfeit. eBay argued that it has no obligation to investigate fake claims and denies having any expertise to do so. eBay won that case, which ultimately went all the way to the Supreme Court. That sounds more like avoiding responsibility than taking it.

LVMH also sued eBay for knowingly operating a marketplace riddled with fake goods. They sued in a French court and won. After about 10 years of legal wrangling a settlement was reached. They also lost a smaller lawsuit against Hermes. As a result eBay launched an authentication service for handbags. But not for watches. Rolex will have to beat them in court for that to happen.

Why wouldn’t you want the most educated forum on the net policing a marketplace full of fakes?

Again , since many of you appear to be savants.....

NOTHING WRONG WITH REPORTING FAKES OR SCAMS.

however when what your posting about is advertised as fake, or is a complete joke, your not preventing anything.
That was my point. After looking at "lol check out this fake sub" and then being directed to a ad for a fake sub....

Seems stupid.

And in response to my 5th post... Yes, I came here to buy and sell and unfortunately I have to make some posts. Anything else from someone who wears a respectable wristwatch and isn't just larping maybe?

I think I actually posted somewhere, or dm'd a mod asking about how that was done. But none the less, I can't even make a substantial post, or post a picture without the count up as far as I know.

Indeed.

You need to not be a total newbie before the forum loosens the reigns. Post count and the elapsing of time facilitates that.
