BLRO vs BLRN revisited
Hello everyone,
I know that this has been discussed at length on this site but I would love to hear your updated thoughts after some time has gone by since Basel World. I currently own a Rolex Batman BLNR and I am first on the list at my AD to receive the new SS Pepsi Jubille BLRO. I have also noticed that the BLRO has dropped from around $22k on the Grey markets to around $18k or even lower. Is the BLRO losing it demand? I can't keep both watches and I have never seen the BLRO in person. Would you keep the Batman or exchange it for the BLRO as your everyday watch? Thanks in advance :+) |

Well, of course the BLRO is losing demand -- people are getting them. The demand will always be highest right at the beginning, when everyone wants one and no one has one. It can only go down from there.
It's important to remember that, scarcity aside, these are functionally the same watch. The BLRO has a slightly better movement, but everything aside from that is cosmetics and personal taste. Do you prefer black and blue or red and blue? Do you prefer an oyster bracelet or a jubilee? And even if you prefer the BLRO, are you willing to pay a six-thousand-dollar premium just for scarcity? I personally prefer the BLNR. I just prefer the colors. But if I could also have a jubilee for it, I'd take that over the oyster. |

If I could only have one, I prefer the BLNR.

This one comes down to personal preference. I love the BLNR - but it would hard to pass up the new Pepsi at retail.

I wouldn’t but it’s because I think the BLNR Batman is one of the great Rolex designs, ever. I love mine. That said, the BLRO Pepsi has been a smash and the people that have gotten theirs absolutely love them. One factor to consider. I recently got a Tudor North Flag and while I love the watch for all its tool-watch goodness, and unexpected benefit is the 70 hour power reserve. That’s a game changer and I do wish my BLNR’s movement had that. I believe the Pepsi’s new 3285 movement does offer a 70 hour reserve. I don’t think you can go wrong. Why not keep both? I have the good fortune to have both a BLNR and a BLRO (WG). If I had to keep only one, it would be the BLRO. Totally subjective, but I like the pepsi colours more than the blue/black.

If I were in your shoes, I'd decide if I'm a 50/50 split between the two. If so, I'd pick the BLRO because it does have an upgraded movement. If I wasn't sure, I'd keep the BLNR because it is truly a kick-ass watch.
For me, I was in your shoes other than I had the opportunity to keep both. That said, I REALLY love my BLNR so it would have had to floor me to give up my current GMT. I had a chance to get the BLRO and I passed after trying it on. The colors didn't do it for me like I thought and a jubilee reminds me of a guy named Al with a bad combover while wearing a faux leather member's only jacket with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows while he leans against the trunk of his 1978 Chrysler Cordoba with a Marb Red hanging from his lips, but that's just me. |

I would wear both for a month or so and make my decision. New movement wouldn't be a deciding factor. Fit, comfort and which color combo I preferred would be my deciding factors

I would trade up, I prefer the jubilee, the movement and even the colours although they're not perfect. My only condition would be to pay BLRO MSRP - fair market value of the BLNR.

I would choose the BLNR. I have an issue with the red(ish) color of the new BLRO and also the jubilee bracelet as the only option. Though I prefer the slightly slimmer lugs of the BLRO, this is barely noticeable. Additionally, the BLNR stand out less (to my eye) and may prove more versatile.

If I had to keep 1 it would be the BLRO. If there is any way to keep both, I would. If you are getting it for MSRP it would be worth it. I believe that the grey market price will continue to drop as more pieces hit the market. I think those willing to pay the premium already did, now there are those of us who are willing to wait to pay MSRP. Good luck. If you choose not to take BLRO I'll take it and can work out a timeshare program with you.

I prefer the BLNR over BLRO. I wouldn’t trade it out.

I think it comes down to bracelet and color preference. I don’t think the “new”
Case or updated movement are significant. I have a BLNR and prefer the blue black. I passed on a SS BLRO at MSRP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

BLNR without question. Unless you are considering a RG CHNR. Then you got problems.

What I would love to do is buy the SS BLRO and swap out the dial and bezel with the BLNR. Why? Smaller case size.

I did try on all 3 Gmt 2's at a reveal last spring and liked the Ln the best. F>fwd 2 weeks ago my AD called to tell me he had the Ln and Blnr to see. I ended up with the Blnr thinking the LN would be too redundant with my SubC. Although l didn't have a shot at the Blro l know l still would have chosen the Blnr as l do prefer the bezel and bracelet combo.

As someone who don’t have both and if I have an option to pick one. I would choose the BLNR, better design and bracelet and more masculine for my taste. Pepsi is great but I told my AD, I only want the BLNR or Green dial SubC and pass on the Pepsi. I should be to get one very soon, I would buy either or both GMT sand Sub if available.

BLNR for me. I can relate to BL=day NR=night color scheme as opposed to the Pepsi’s BL=night RO=day.

Movement and personal aesthetic preferences aside, I find the BLNR a bit more interesting because it's the first time they changed up the GMT color scheme in a while. Up until and since it's all been various versions of black, pepsi, coke, root beer. I would hesitate to call a new color form "innovation" but Rolex went a bit outside of the box on this one. Consequently I think it will go on to be an iconic piece tied to it's time period (perhaps) more than other color forms of it's time.

I too own the BLNR, and I have had thoughts about getting the BLRO. But i've refrained from doing so, purely cos I don't quite fancy the jubilee bracelet all that much. No doubt that its popular(which is maybe partly the reason for wanting one), but putting the "hottness" of the demand for the BLRO, I'm quite happy to keep the BLNR. From pics, I do prefer the overall aesthetics of the BLNR, and I definitely find the BLNR's function and colour scheme of blue for day & black for night(as xtra3cats has pointed out as well)more meaningful than the BLRO's.

I like the BLNR look better.
BLRO a bit purple/pink to me. But I like the new movement and longer minute hand of the BLRO. At some point, BLNR will be discontinued, or updated with the new movement. So your BLNR may be more valuable over time while the BLRO prices should come down as more are acquired. |
