Explorer 2. The outcast ?
Gotta be honest I bought the Explorer 2 because it seems to be unloved. I like outcast , the one that’s not wanted. I’ve grown to appreciate the watch.

The stainless situation has likely brought more buyers to the explorer 2. I love it, but the size is a little too big for me. It’s a beautiful watch though! Which color did you buy? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I just got an Explorer II polar dial. The watch is even better than I expected. There is just something about it that makes it look like a real tool watch. I would not say this should be your first Rolex -- that should be a Sub, but the Explorer II is really a nice watch and a change from what you regularly see.

I’m a fan of the Exp II. In fact, the polar was the first Rolex from the current lineup that my eye went to when I got serious about buying my first. I ended up with the Exp, but as I think about my future second purchase the Exp II is in the equation. Recently I’ve started to come around to the black dial as well.

The Explorer II is a great watch.
I'm partial to the 16570, myself.

I am really starting to dig the polar EXP2 42mm
Amazing value for $7k (unworn grays) or $8.1k new (if you can't get discount): 3187 durable movement 21mm solid brushed oyster bracelet Super-Maxi dial and hands Gloss white dial with white date wheel Radially brushed bezel (tool watch) Great clasp with Easylink Terrific height to diameter ratio Nicely tapered lugs (not supercase) Awesome Orange lettering and 24hr hand I think the polar Explorer II would be a great counter to my SD43 |

The polar explorer ii is pretty awesome but it is maxing out on my wrist. I then tried on the new 39 explorer I and might I just say it was just close to perfection.

I wore a 214270 last week and agree with you. It's a watch that could make you say this is it for me

Life is good when one can buy a watch only because it is "unloved" and then come to appreciate it later.

I’ve owned the 1655 and 216570 but ended up settling with a polar 16570. There is something special about all the explorer models.

What makes you think the Explorer II is unloved? There is a lot of love for it on the forum and in the retailers. Its not like every AD has one on display. I was under the impression they sell very well! I am glad you are loving yours though.

I’ve ALWAYS loved the Exp 2.
Both colors. But polar is my favorite.

The white Explorer 2 stole the show (maybe only in my eyes ) when Jordan Speith won the Open up our way at Birkdale in '17.

I tried one on the other day for the first time. Can’t stop thinking about it. It’s very underrated.

Since there are multiple threads daily about the EXP II about the unpopularity, I would contend the opposite !
For me it’s the best wearing and one of the most practical of the Rolodex line. If the EXP I was 42mm, it would make a great pair.

With the exception of my LV-C grail, the Explorer 2 Polar was the only Rolex that appealed to me. This was back in the days when I was ignorant of the WIS world or the supply and demand situation. I just walked into my AD and bought one. And got a discount.
That was one year ago, nearly to the day. Since then the illness has set in. Taking the Hulk out of the reckoning because it's so special to me and more than just a watch, the Polar is the last watch I would dispose of. So my first is also my last, so to speak. Each to our own. |

One of my favourite watches, especially the white dial. Good value compared to other Rolex.

This is a watch that doesn't belong in the same sentence as the words "unloved," and "outcast." IMO.
I get a lot of mileage from these two. |

The Explorer II is what all Rolex sports models should behave. I thank the gray community for overlooking it. Yes please remain undesirable to the masses.

Loved my polar 216570 but felt it was just a bit too large on my wrist. Regardless, I miss it and might give it a second chance someday.

I don't care for this one, in either color. The hands look cartoonish to me.

It's the only s/s sports model I consistently see in AD cases. I think it's fantastic, particularly the black dial. In person, it's really impressive.
